I've got a 1991 passat 2.0 L that started the other morning...

I've got a 1991 passat 2.0 L that started the other morning like normal, then started to run rough and died and now the darn thing won't start at all. It has power to the coil and to the distributor but no spark to the plugs or wires. could this be the the hall sender in the distributor?? Please help !!

Did you find out what the problem was? I have the same problem. 1992 VW Cabriolet. I have $5000.00 in parts and it runs like a POS.

Had the same problem with a 1991 Passat and replaced the distributor with a used one and now its fine.

It sounds like you have a bad cap and rotor.

niles, it's your coil!  
They go bad all the time.
Try spraying wd-40 on it and see if it hits/starts.  
  I sale them for $90, you'll probably have to pay a little bit more for one.
