Physicians and Diagnostic Procedures

M any people dislike going to the doctor; many fear going to the hospital. And many are overwhelmed by the enormity of the health care industry; much of its costs and procedures seem incomprehensible to us and out of control. Too often, these people put off seeing a doctor until they develop a debilitating problem. Yet many people overlook the one very important way they can alleviate some of their anxiety over their own medical care: choosing a doctor. Having a doctor you trust and with whom you can communicate well not only makes it more likely that you will make appointments for regular checkups, tests, and immunizations, but you will feel comfortable reporting any symptoms that may be the first signs of serious illness, many of which, when diagnosed early, can be treated successfully.
