0.1 Introduction
With the recent explosion of usenet throughout the world many hierarchies outside the traditional "Big 8" (comp, soc, misc, news, rec, humanities, sci & talk) have been created. These range from regional to special interest. This FAQ is intended to document some information about these hierarchies and enable News-Administrators to ensure they are carrying the correct groups for each one. Central to this FAQ is a sample "control.ctl" file used by the INN news-server to add and delete groups. Another important source of information is Lewis Eisen's <leisen@pfx.on.ca> "Master List of Newsgroup Hierarchies" which is available from: http://www.magmacom.com/~leisen/master_list.html Please remember that this FAQ is an "in progress" document. Several sections need re-writing and updating. Contributions and corrections are very welcome. This FAQ is now available on the Web at: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/usenet/hierarchies-config
