1.9) What is the Atari 800XE?

Introduced in 1985 in markets including Germany and Eastern Europe as a
direct replacement for the 800XL, the 800XE is a low-end version of the 130XE.

All 800XE machines include 64K RAM, and the FREDDIE memory management chip.

The 800XE does not include the PBI port as on the 600XL/800XL, but does
include the Enhanced Cartridge Interface (ECI) as is present on all 130XE
units.

Normally boots with Atari BASIC (Revision C) enabled; Hold down [Option] on
startup to boot without BASIC.

The 800XE was produced in a PAL (Europe) version only:
     - PAL 130XE motherboard
     - identical to common PAL version of 65XE
     - reports of some 800XE machines previously labeled as 65XE machines
       and vice versa.

Jindrich Kubec writes, "The problematic Chinese 800XEs with GTIA problems were
manufactured in 1992."

The 800XE was made in Taiwan (early production) and China (late production).

The 800XE was last manufactured in 1992.
