Oops... I just noticed that I sent this message to a test list instead of
to the right place... sigh..

----

The current moderation process used to manage the *.answers newsgroups has shown serious problems these past years. The current process requires a long learning curve so changing moderators is extremely disruptive to the FAQ approval and archival process. FAQ authors have contributed to the net for the common good for many years via Usenet. Some have been frustrated by the confusing approval process and long delays in getting initial approvals and changes processed. This has not been the fault of the individual moderators. To the contrary, this has been the fault of the process and the tools they were forced to use. While the net has changed drastically since the *.answers newsgroups were put in place, the process for approving and archiving them has not.

In order to work towards improving the situation for both moderators and authors, I have created the faq-dev@faqs.org mailing list.

This list is an open discussion list to collaborate on improving the process for FAQ approval and distribution on both Usenet and the Web. The intent of this list is to come up with a process and implementation that works for the community and provides moderators and authors with the tools need to continue to provide valuable knowledge to all.

To subscribe, send a mail message to majordomo@faqs.org

To post a message to the list, send it to faqs-dev@faqs.org

The list will be archive and available from the faqs.org web site in a few days.

To those interested in improving the process, please participate. We need your thoughts and experiences to make it a much better process.

On a personal note:

I am really amazed the existing facility has lasted this long. This is a credit to the moderators who designed it and have kept it running. To all the moderators past and present, Thank You!
