This used to be true before the US Copyright law was changed to fit
the international standards (Berne Convention?) That was some time ago
(1988) - and now the copyright notice is not needed as the copyright
applies as soon as the work is created (fixed in a tangible medium.)
While there are legal advantages to affixing a copyright notice, it is
not needed for a legal copyright.
