Oh, I completely agree. If it has the slightest reasonable explanation,
then it's probably legitimate, and certainly worth the risk of
replying. The ones I was talking about don't have even the least shred
of information, and when you read them carefully you realize that they
don't even mention your name. It's a real tipoff if you get identical
messages at multiple accounts.
My mother has also done a lot of genealogical research -- I think she
has almost 2000 entries in her Brother's Keeper database, "all related
to my children" as she puts it -- and I certainly don't want to
discourage any legitimate attempts to contact people.
