[faq-maintainers] My 2 cents worth from a tech dummy

As already noted I lack the tech prowess to do any of this. All I know is that the present system is keying on a specific few people, many of which are simply unable to act in that capacity. Thats no one's fault of course.

He's my limited vision.

PART ONE
--------
A web interface form where a person can select if its a new FAQ or making a change to static information on an old one such as name, password, e-mail address, newsgroup, number of parts, frequency, archive name, secondary header info, and maybe a few other items I am missing off the top of my head.

A NEW FAQ could be flagged for a moderator to interact with. Someone trying to post a replacement FAQ (one already exists elsewhere) would similarly be flagged for a moderator to deal with or send an auto response saying one already exists. Another form may exist to report problems such as "faq abandoned" so someone else can take it over.

Someone already handling a FAQ that needs to change e-mail address and a few other attributes would be keyed through. And depending on the will of the moderation team, maybe allow an existing FAQ holder to pass on that FAQ to someone else simply by changing the name and e-mail address and checking a box for "new maintainer".

Some if not all of this process may be able to be automated.

PART TWO
--------
Processing the form gains you access to an auto-posting server (initial password to access, etc). A web page to change this password would exist elsewhere.

Maintainer posts the FAQ by e-mail to the server much like its done now.

PART THREE
----------
When the server posts out the FAQ it marries the static info from the web form(s) database which would create the PRIMARY/SECONDARY header info, with the FAQ from a FAQ database.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

In this way a database of all the necessary info is available as necessary for reference by necessary systems to authenticate.

The maintainer can then upload updates to his/her FAQ at will as it is done now. They can also change a host of other attributes as may be necessary without the need for a moderator's interaction once approved.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe I have oversimplified something here that is far more complex than I can see from my limited vantage point but when you see all these e-commerce sites doing so much more and a lot of that with CGI and Java, that makes me wonder.
