I added a copyright notice to mine several years ago, for the same
reason that open source software is not put into the public domain. I
want people to freely distribute it, but I still want to retain some
control, for example, to keep people from distributing outdated versions
of the FAQ.
Now I'm wanting to hand off my FAQ to someone else for all future
maintenance, but preserve the right to publish the material myself (at
least the current and previous versions). I've tried writing up a
semi-formal transfer agreement, and I can't figure out whether I should
transfer the copyright or not. How have other people handled the legal
issues?
