Not at all. It's still posted as a single file, and stored
on rtfm.mit.edu (and most archives) as a single file.
Kent's scripts on www.faqs.org do the splitting and
organization. The archive at Ohio State also does this (a
little differently).

Newsreaders which recognize digest format may present it as
separate articles. I don't know how common such newsreaders
are, or whether they require more of the full digest
format.
