It'll be removed from rtfm eventually, nominally within six months or
so, but since the main purpose of such a pointer is to replace
outdated versions in archives which don't remove old files, if it's
deleted from one of those it's served its purpose.

The problem of outdated pointers to the old location is a bit tougher,
and not permanently solved by this suggestion.
