I'm happy to announce that we have just upgraded this list to Lyris, the
list software which will carry us into the next generation of virtual
communities. It has a number of built-in features to make your life easier,
and is fully extensible so that we can write our own custom solutions to
meet your needs.

It is important that you provide feedback during this process. Our goal is
your satisfaction, and we'll do a much better job with your input. If
something is confusing, or doesn't work as you expect it to, we want to hear
about it! If you find something particularly useful, let us know! The best
way to contact us is by sending an email message to
Listmaster@lists.consensus.com.

<mailto:Listmaster@lists.consensus.com>

What differences will you notice under Lyris? MORE options, FASTER delivery,
and MORE INTELLIGENT algorithms for stopping loops and duplicate postings.

The commands work a bit differently, although we have successfully
maintained our commitment to a dead-simple interace. Instead of indicating a
command by placing special text in the subject line (such as "Subscribe
Digest"), you send mail to a special address (such as
"Digest-FAQ-Maintainers@lists.consensus.com"). When you send mail to a
"command address", it doesn't matter what you type into the subject or body.
Lyris also supports just about every other server command style, such as
FAQ-Maintainers-Request@, listserv@, majordomo@, etc.

What new options are there? From now on, all mail will be archived and
indexed by a search engine, which you can use with email or the web. The
mailing list to a newsgroup (not part of USENET), which allows you to log in
to lists.consensus.com and view messages with a newsreader. There are lots
of other new features, which you can read about at the Lyris help pages at
<http://www.lyris.com/help/>

One feature which could be really helpful on a list this active is called
INDEX SUBSCRIPTION. Index is similar to digest, except that you don't
receive the full text of every message, just the first line. You can then
request specific messages individually, only getting the full text of the
ones you want. This is especially helpful for AOL or other users who have
problems with large messages, since the index messages are much smaller than
digests.

You will receive the help file for this list in a separate message. I
strongly advise that you read it and file it somewhere for future reference.
The list home page also includes links to the new features.

Please send replies directly to me, instead of to the list.
