Hi all,

Recently I decided to see what I could do to improve access to the
FAQ-Maintainer mailing list archives. They were not in the easiest
format to use so...

This is to announce the FAQ-Maintainer list archives on
{www/ftp}.landfield.com. I have created a mail archive you can
access either via FTP or a web browser.

http://www.landfield.com/faq-maintainers/mail-archive/
ftp://ftp.landfield.com/faq-maintainers/mail-archive/

Inbound messages are stored in Unix mailbox format and automatically added
to the web-based archive at the same time. In other words, all new messages
are inserted into the two different archives the minute the messages arrive.

There are search capabilities available on the main index page as well as on

http://www.landfield.com/faq-maintainers/mail-archive/asearch.html

The archive was constructed from the files on RTFM as well as messages I
had locally that were missing in the RTFM archives. Nancy was nice enough
to ftp a complete copy of her personal faq-maintainers list mailboxes.
I sifted and sorted and reassembled and I think I now have a pretty good
set of archives. There was duplication in the RTFM files and I added
missing messages found in Nancy's files and mine.

I separated the messages into "faq-maintainers.YYMM" mailboxes that
match the dates of the messages. They can be read directly from elm
or most any Unix mail reader. Below is a listing of the "mailbox" directory.

Because I was able to find additional messages in Nancy's file and mine
I'd like to make an appeal. If you think you might have a pretty complete
set of messages or just simply a single missing message, please let me
know and I will cross check the archive to see if any you have are missing
from the archive. I'm going to go back to tape and see what I have stashed
away as well.

I have rebuilt the archives three times making sure it was complete as
possible. It allowed me to be able to automate the task. (Two's not enough
but three's just right. ;-) ) I hope to start playing with mhonarc this
weekend. When I figure out which is easier to use (as a user, not an admin)
I'll either leave things as they are or rebuild a couple times with mhonarc.
;-) Anyway, enjoy!

And please, if you have ideas on making it better, I'm listening.
