I don't know if there's an external reason behind this; if so, it was
most likely the one other people have already stated, namely, that
using intervals helps to spread the load throughout the month. (Who
would pick the 31st of the month otherwise?)

More practically, it keeps the routine which processes commands and
requests for the faq-server simple. Using intervals allows just one
number to completely specify the information. Otherwise we'd need
some way to differentiate between intervals and days of the month, to
continue to allow articles to be posted weekly, bimonthly, etc. Not a
terribly difficult thing to do, but it would take a bit of work.

If there's enough demand for including day-of-month specification, I
can add it to the list of things for the moderation team to do, but I
must admit I'd want to know why an interval isn't good enough, given
the number of other things we have pending (including a message queue
which is once again far too large). From recent replies it sounds
like the current system is doing well enough.
