I disagree. At least he has requested permission first *before*
including the FAQs on the CDROM. This I consider a good and professional
thing to have done.

Maybe, maybe not. What if he is thinking of trying to undercut a
similar CDROM supplier by reducing his overheads as much as possible?
Finally to link this with another email on the thread I see his
primary reason for not mailing the CD about is cost. I must ask by which
method he aims to send the CD. Given that it likely does contain material
that I have already seen then I would not be unhappy to see the thing
sent surface mail to me, which is considerably cheaper if somewhat longer
to arrive.
Has anyone suggested using that postal method to him?
Admittedly it would not permit us to quickly see how he has placed the
FAQs on the CDROM but if his lead time to market is over a month then it
should be an adequite method. Given that we can reply quickly via email...
Although what puzzles me the most is why the guy simply doesn't lay
out the FAQs on a large enough hard drive somewhere and then let us
maintainers FTP to it and see the layout for ourselves... Once we are all
happy and have told him as much via email he could then send the
complimentary copy via surface mail and keep his costs low that way.
