I still remember that probably around last October or November, I was
kind of interested in computer viruses. Some friends refered me to
Usenet for information regarding them, and that initiated my Usenet
experience. Personally I myself come from Taiwan, and later I also
started reading "soc.culture.taiwan".
However, people in "soc.culture.taiwan" like to argue issues about
Taiwan Independence or Unification with China ( People's Republic of
China ), and their debate often went down to name calling .... A lot
of posts are crossposted in "soc.culture.china" also, and that forum
was pretty bad and terrible ..... later I gave up and went through
some other interesting newsgroups like "rec.pyrotechnics" and
"comp.unix.questions".
Around one month later I went back to SCT, and things were improved a
little as there are less ( though still many ) political issues and
more "cultural" discussions. I started to hang on there. Since people
keep asking where they can find Internet Service Providers in Taiwan,
I tried to dig out something in the rtfm ftp server in MIT, but I found
that there were no FAQ's for SCT, so I tried to compile one. I did not
find the FAQ for SCT in the MIT ftp site, I did not find the FAQ posted
in my limited readership, and some other veterans did not know any
existence of SCT FAQ's, so here I went.
However, I did encounter some problems there. When I posted, claiming
I was working on the SCT FAQ, another netizen sent me an E-mail, telling
me that he had already worked on one in the previous April, and he asked
me to maintain it for him. After some readings, I thought his work
concentrated too much on political issues, which is vulnerable for being
flamebaits, and I still work on my own, refering two or three questions
to his work and assigned the credits to him. Later he accused me in
public ( SCT ) for stealing his work and put my title on it. I neglected
his accusation and now what I did has already exceeded his work.
I am not sure if I am right in this event :( This is my little story.
