So, If I make a CD with music that means that I have voided my ownership to the
songs? No, distribution of something does NOT stop your ownership of the
material.
But if you make and distribute a few hundred thousand copies for free,
and with the full knowledge that many of the people who receive copies
are _expected_ to make and distribute additional copies for free, you
probably couldn't collect much in the way of damages.
In this example, the notion of copyright becomes a little...umm..interesting?
