This seems to be a perfect excuse... err, opportunity, to show what the
auto-replier text would look like, if someone made a submission today.
Please reply to us (Reply-to: news-answers-request@MIT.EDU) if you
have any comments on how it can be improved.
-------- cut here --------
You are receiving this auto-reply message because you either tried to
post or cross-post to one or more of the *.answers moderated Usenet
newsgroups (alt.answers, comp.answers, misc.answers, news.answers,
rec.answers, sci.answers, soc.answers, talk.answers), or because you
sent email to one of the submission addresses for these newsgroups, or
because you sent email to one of the administrative addresses for the
*.answers newsgroups moderators.
This is to acknowledge that your message was received. Your message
has been queued in our incoming mail folder, which we process (for the
most part) in chronological order. Your mail has been saved, so
barring catastrophic hardware or software failure here at MIT, we will
eventually respond to your message. It is not necessary to send your
message again, or to other addresses (nor will it speed up the
processing time; in fact, duplicate or misdirected mail increases our
workload and may increase the processing delay).
As of 02/22/1995, our incoming mail queue is 302 messages deep.
We are currently processing messages that have arrived on or before
02/18/1995. (The afore-mentioned date may be non-representative of the
amount of time you can expect to wait to hear back from us, however.)
The work load of managing the duties of moderating the *.answers has
been steadily increasing, to somewhat overwhelming proportions. What
this means it may take as much as 3-4 weeks to process your request.
Relatively simple *.answers-related queries and requests to be added
(or deleted) from the faq-maintainers and faq-maintainers-announce
mailing lists will probably be processed much faster than that, though.
We realize that this estimated turnaround time may be somewhat slow by
Usenet standards; however, since the *.answers newsgroups work
differently than most moderated Usenet newsgroups, the turnaround time
is not fatal. In addition to reducing the turnaround time with
further automation and optimization of our duties, we are seeking
qualified volunteer moderators to help share the work. If you are
interested and believe you are qualified, send a message to
news-answers-request@mit.edu and we will send you more information.
If you are actually submitting an FAQ or periodic informational
posting for our approval, please keep in mind that you are free to
continue posting it to all other newsgroups besides *.answers while
approval is pending. Consult the *.answers submission guidelines for
further information; the guidelines are posted to the *.answers
newsgroups monthly, and are also available via anonymous FTP as:
rtfm.mit.edu:/pub/usenet/news.answers/news-answers/guidelines
Thank you for writing us. Your patience and support of the *.answers
newsgroups are greatly appreciated.
