Well, here's the info I have on large FAQs and America Online -- not
totally relevant, but I've been meaning to forward this to
faq-maintainers for a while now.

Newsmaster@aol.com is pretty responsive, considering the probably
overload of running something that large; I've tended to redirect
any of their user queries there.

And there's always the folk that sell FAQs on CD-ROM. Time for a FAQ
about getting FAQs :-)

Mark.

Mark,

My apologies for the late reply, I've been kept busy policing some users on
the postmaster account.

It sounds to me like the user who posted the truncated article complaint was
failing to click "more" - our newsreader only displays the first 10-30k of an
article at a time, depending on transmission rate, to keep users from waiting
for the entire text to be transmitted. Many members fail to notice the "More"
button, which lights up when there is more text to be received.

Thanks for the forward, though.

Mark,

I think this puts a different light on the previous reply. The Mac client
software currently "limits" the member to 32k in the text window, though I
understand they can still click "more" and the top of the article will
'scroll out' of the text box. It's an inelegant solution, but what we are
limited to until the Mac client team can ditch the standard Mac text toolkit.

The Windows client already has a limit of 64k per text article. That team is
also working on a "virtualized" text box, but again it will be some time
before it can be fully implemented in our client software.
