The very oldest documents -- the ones shipped with A News, dated 18 Dec
1980 -- use "USENET". So that was definitely the original form.

However, "Usenet" is much the commonest form now, and has been for some
time. For example, the Nutshell Handbook on UUCP and Usenet, which dates
back to the mid-1980s, uses "Usenet". The revised version of that book,
which Dave Lawrence and I are working on now, will use "Usenet" throughout.
