Dealing with growing FAQs

I have a FAQ which grows each month. In the past, every 6 months or
so I took a stab at splitting it. At this time, I am at a 5 part
FAQ, and am looking at having to change this thing into a 10 part or
more FAQ.

Now I know that a few of you folk out there are maintaining monsterous
things like this. One thing I am curious about is what new problems
occur as things get split up like this. Another thing is if you have
problems keeping track of what goes where (certainly there is no problem
if one can keep all of a particular subject within a part, but that is
not always simple). Finally, has anyone found that as the FAQ grows to
that size, folk quit using it? Seems to me that it becomes pretty
tough to deal with at that point in time.

In my case, my FAQ contains a bibliography, a software catalog, and
a few other such things. One of the directions I am considering is
splitting these off and turning them into ftp-able documents. The
problem with this though is that more and more I am hearing folk
who have given up on ftp by mail because of the huge delays.

Thoughts and considerations are appreciated.

This 60k limit on postings is really a pain.
