I have placed the file post_faq.patch9 and a new version of
post_faq.shar in /pub/post_faq on rtfm.mit.edu.
The changes between patchlevel 8 and patchlevel 9 of post_faq are as
follows (the most notable ones are marked with ***):
Makefile:
* Fix a typo ("post-faq.man" should say "post_faq.man").
* Add a "FRC" dependency to the "install" rule so that "make
install" will work even if there's a file or directory in
the current directory named "install".
config.dat.in:
*** * Add a comment explaining what to do if you need to add
command-line options to the invocation of inews that
post_faq uses.
post_faq.man.base:
*** * Document the new legal values of -2 and 3 for the "force"
field in the configuration file.
post_faq.pl.base:
*** * Catch SIGPIPE, so that post_faq will not exit prematurely
(and leave the configuration file in a truncated state) if
inews exits without reading all its input.
* Add more brackets to the usage message.
* Fix a stupid error which caused post_faq to print "1"
instead or printing the reason why an FAQ was being posted.
* Add support for a value of 3 in the force field, which
causes the FAQ to be posted and then have its force field
set to -2. (This is useful for "irregular" FAQ postings,
especially when they are posted out of the same config file
as regular postings.)
faqfile.pl:
* Add -2 and 3 as legal values for the "force" field.
* Make a couple error messages a little bit more verbose.
*** * Allow extra whitespace at the end of lines in the
configuration file.
Remember, problems with post_faq should be reported to
news-answers-request@mit.edu.
