We've just received the following query about posting from a VMS
machine; I have already pointed out the faq server, but I'm sure the
question is of general interest.

I've edited out the parts I've already replied to.

I am not at an
Internet site, I am at a UUCP site. Our machine is a VAX, running VMS and
ANU NEWS V6.0-3. I have been a USENET participant for quite some time,
and know a fair amount, but far from everything. There is nobody else at
our site for me to ask questions of - the guru that installed our NEWS
system has since departed.

I'll be glad to put on sensible Expire dates. However, my NEWS software
doesn't even know about the "Supersedes" or "References" headers. Also, I
haven't the foggiest idea of how or where the message ID gets formulated
and tagged to the message.

If you know this ANU NEWS software and have a suggestion, I'm listening.
Otherwise, even though this will be a multi-part FAQ, I won't be able to
manipulate "Supersedes" or "References".

How is this done? Again, my NEWS software doesn't know about "Approved"
fields in the header of a posting. I am allowed to manipulate six (6)
fields in the header - Reply-To, Distribution, Followup-To, Keywords,
Expires, and Summary. That's it.
