Some administrative issues

(1) A reminder about bounces: yes, we know that most of you who have
sent messages to the mailing list see a bunch of bounces. The mailing
list policy (sent to you upon subscription, and also periodically
mailed to the mailing lists) specifically notes that we know about the
bounces problem, and that we even know the technical solution, but we
cannot easily apply the technical solution because we do not control
the software configuration on the local mail hubs. So there's no
point in sending us email asking about whether we can do anything. :)

However, at this time, we would be interested in hearing back from
anyone on the faq-maintainers mailing list who can offer access to a
long-term stable mailing list server, such that either they would be
willing to take over maintaining mailing lists for us, or such that we
would be able to maintain the mailing lists directly. Offers should
be sent to us at faq-maintainers-request@mit.edu.

(2) We've received a number of complaints directed to us via
faq-maintainers-request, as well as those you've seen which were sent
to faq-maintainers itself, about the rambling nature of the
discussions and whether they were wandering off. I think things have
improved a little bit in focus, but please, as always:

* Consider replying personal and not back to the list as an option.
* Consolidate your responses rather than send umpteen individual
pieces of email, and read everybody else's responses first
to make sure you do not needlessly repeat any points.
* Before sending off a piece of email, please review whether it
should be of PARTICULAR interest to the FAQ maintainers community.

(3) In case people were wondering, I (and the other *.answers
moderators, too, I suspect) do have opinions on some of threads which
have been occurring on faq-maintainers, but (a) we're awfully busy
with our non-*.answers/FAQ-maintainer roles in our lives right now;
(b) it may be tricky to express personal opinions without having them
take weight because of our roles as *.answers moderators, and we
haven't tried to reach any internal concensus on these issues.
