I wanted to make one more point, which you may or may not consider
relevant to this discussion. The point being that Walnut Creek CD-ROM is,
other than this infraction, a good internet citizen. They maintain the
alt.cdrom archive site, they aren't charging a whole lot for this CD
(although IMHO, they are charging way beyond the production cost for the
CD and therefore too much), and they are active participants in the
alt.cdrom USENET newsgroup.

To level a suit against Walnut Creek would be shooting the alt.cdrom
community (as valid as the FAQ maintainer community) in the gut. I know
there are some ways to work around this, but I haven't heard any of them
discussed yet.

It would be nice if Walnut Creek would just accept that they must be good
internet citizens all across the board and receive permission instead of
this sham they have going now.

-- on the otherhand, six months ago I was told by one of the most
-- respected citizens of the net (whose livelyhood depends on copyrighted
-- material -- books) that copyrighting USENET articles, faqs included,
-- is a stupid fight continued only by crybabies....
