ARP works on Layer 3 OSI model. For Example :If a station generate an ARP request for a station that is on a different n/w segment (It happens due to the different in sender and receiver MASK ), the router in between the two n/w when receive this ARP Request will perform a  routing table lookup as weather it could reach the destination n/w as specified in the ARP request packet. If the router couldn't find an entry to reach the destination n/w it would simply DROP the ARP request.  email: naveed_33@yahoo.com
