I agree on the issue of date format (allowing ISO dates), it seems that the RFC format is overly complex and also difficult to parse properly. On the other hand, many spam filters rely on programmers being too lazy to construct a date in the RFC-compliant format and use that to add a spam score if the date is not properly formatted.

I suggest that we need to address the issue of spam in the specification itself. We cannot rely on acts such as CAN-SPAM to help us in any way.
