i just received cable from bresnan...now when i go to talk...

i just received cable from bresnan...now when i go to talk to my dad like i used to through msn messenger i can hear him but he cant hear me...i tested my microphone setup through speech in control pannel..passed.  does my new cable through bresnan not alow me to speak to my dad any more
