Yes, when any spell is countered, it is placed in the graveyard.

i beg to differ millmaster..you see when someone counters a spell it is triggering the spell that was countering thus can only be stifled since now becoming a triggered ability.  and it doesnt go in the graveyard because a spell succesfully countered is flung back at the opponent so what you do is take the card from his hand and throw it back at him, from there it stays wherever it is at.
