It really depends whether your debating the affirmative side or the negative side of the topic. In my opinion though, Yes police should wear guns.
*in case of emargency
* Self defence(Their the only ones in society that have crooks shooting at them!)In fact What should guns be used for if not police?  Basically the only people that are entitled to have guns are police.
Also though, it depends if the topic wantsyou to argue that they should wear them ALL the time. The topic's not very clear, maybe you should check with someone who's organising the debate?

I strongly aggree with Cutie.
I have been a fan of the ABC show "The Bill" and in England the police do not carry weapons.  When the police come face to face with an armed person, the only thing they can do is talk to them and mess their pants.
The only thing that I would like to see is Australia not becoming more like the US.

I live in the U.S. where police carry guns. Most of them are under the age of twenty-five and jump at the chance to pull it out. Remember that police are humans, not super heroes. They make mistakes in judgement just like all of us.

I think police should not wear guns because if a child has a gun with no bullets and threatens to kill another kid and the police fires his gun that is a death wish for that that child. Also that police officer would feel so guilty about the hole situation.

Hmm. Yes, I agree with the whole self defense and emergency thing. Police should wear guns.
However, guns should have never been invented in the first place.

Grr. >_>

i think police shouldn't wear weapons when they are on call out'sbecause if a gangster found out that a police officer weapons on him he'll think oh no the police are putting
little ones in danger of killing someone.

Yeah, it is very interesting topic for the debate. Actually I am doing it at the moment and I stand on the negative side.
I think, polices should not carry their guns all the time. It is very dangerous for police themselves and also for the criminals. criminals will force and use polices' guns to survive. On the other hand, in case of emergency, the police accidentally shot the criminal die while they are working. As the result, the crime can not be investigated and the police will live in the jail.

You people are flippin stupid!!! Why wouldn't cops wear guns? What if they see someone holding a gun up to someone, robbing a bank, or hurtin someone else? What are they gonna do without the gun, talk them to death? Police officers need guns. I am so sick of you freakin people that say guns shouldn't be aloud. Guns do not kill people, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!!! If someone wants to kill somebody else, they are gonna do it by any means necesary, the gun isn't the problem, the person is. If you freakin people want to outlaw guns, then you might as well outlaw knives, axes, rat poison, chainsaws, bats, forks, and hands for choking. I wish someone would kill all you freakin democrats.
