how can I perform a search with contextual (above/below)
text included?  I'm trying to emulate the old DEC VMS
command such as "search /window=(3,10) stringToFind
filesToSearch.*".

I'm on a Mac OSX 10.2.4 with the default UNIX shell,
TCSH.

the output from running "search /win=1,4 'such as' thisfile." would be the line with 'such as' as well as 1 line above it and 4 lines below, ie  5 lines total:

--------output example starts:  syntax from VMS
search /win=1,4 'such as' thisfile

Use find and grep as the -exec parameter:

Use -B, -C for grep.

$ find $HOME/docs -exec grep -B 1 -C 4 sometext {} \;

Use GNU grep! (www.gnu.org)
