Well, My sis has studied peirceings for 2 years and been peircing for 13 years and she doesn't prefer to use rings b/c it does get caught very easy that doesn't mean that if they do it wit just rings they mite still know what there talking about because everyone has to study some what... I got mine dun wit a bannana barbell and yes i am a dancer and the day i got it dun i forgot i had to dance in 2 days and i was worried but u know what i had to do something on my stumache NOTHING HAPPENED!! it didn't streatch nothing... everything does get caught its just because there's something sticking outa your stumache and your clothes go on your skin so yah sometimes they will get caught but just be carefull.

Well I got my belly button pierced about a month ago, with a ring...It just felt like a little pinch.I clean mine a few times a day with dial anti-bacterial soap and after I use sea-salt. Mine seems fine. But cuz am darker skin...there is a lil dark ring around the top...but nothing too bad...and its normal...I was also told its normal for it to puss. I would recommend a ring because i think its easier to look after and alot safer... cuz when u clean the ring on the outside...and u'retrying to turn it u put a clean part on the inside and then u clean the part on the inside and it wouldn't get infected. With a barbell you cant do that... However I can't wait to change mine...I like the look of the barbell... xoxo

well i got my belly butten pierced about 4 weeks ago and i can tell u it doesn't hurt at all acually it kinda felt like when u gat stung by a bee or something!mine is doin pretty good i clean mine any time i can!i got mine periced wit a ring and i neva got it caught on anything it kina felt like it wasn't there and i went back last week to the piercer and got it changed to a banana barbell and i like the barbell better!!!just make sure if u get urs done don't be nervous cause it doesn't hurt!mine is still kinda red but yea it takes about a full year for it to heal inside and outside but i'mvery happy wit mine and it makes me look great in skimpy cloths and bakini'ssometimes it gets caught on my pants or a belt but nothing serious..and i also sleep on my stomach and it doesn't hurt!i clean it wit dial all the time and i can change my ring but i don't very often but ehrn i do i clean the ring wit acohoal before i put it in and mine has neva gotten infected!!mine looks great!!!

Okay im kinnda woried b/c most of you sound like jack ass's and i dont know if the information and knowledge your passing onto people is actually helping, :/ but anyways i pierced my ear b4 (on the right side upper) and thank god *knock on wood, its doing great. ive had it in for a year the only problem is i want my belly button done and i dont know if i should do it myself. i mean the cnsequences are all the same (not tryin to be a smart ass) but if you dont care for it it'll get infected, it'll always "snag" on things and it dosnt seem to mater if its a banana barbell or a ring. so basically should i do it myself or not and give a reason? the nly difference is the preperation right?! Hey everyone! I'm 12 years old (13 in less than a month)and I just pierced my belly button a few days ago with a pin. I had to do it twice because the first time I used I a very very thin surgical needle... well you know where that ended up! I then used ice cubes to numb- I held it with a wash cloth to the point where I definitely couldn't feel my belly button. I didn't have a clip and I wasn't planing on using a hair clip and try to get in-between the clasp so I just quickly rinsed the pin in hydrogen peroxide and just poked through. I'm a person who hates needles so I just talked to myself saying it's ok and all of that crap. Then I got it through! I didn't have any earrings that are that small so now I'm stuck with two holes. lol, But here's a tip if you will pierce by yourself I would use ice to numb because I personally have tried it both ways- I'd say either way hurts the same amount... Also, use a type of needle that is the same size of an earring- I'm not sure about rings. Good luck with your piercings! ~Lisa~

Hey I am 14 now and I got mine done last February when I was 13. Here are some tips that I have for you guys: I went to a professional place, and I think that it's worth it. I have seen a lot of swollen, infected belly buttons from girls who have done it themselves. I know it's supposed to be like that in the beginning, but theirs have been like this for months. If you are going to do it yourself, though, read about it or ask a professional questions! I got mine done with a ring, and that made it easy to clean because you could just move it through your stomach and clean off the part that was just in your belly button. Don't get the rings that are spiral shaped right away, because they can get caught on your clothes and pull it. Clean it at least twice a day, and putting Neosporin on the piercing and the ring helps disinfect them and it also helps you move the ring to clean it when its crusted and your stomach is stuck to it. Don't touch it with dirty hands, ever! If your'piercing it yourself, use a needle and then put the ring in, don't try to just shove the ring in because it will hurt more! Don't go in ponds or lakes until it is healed, because the bacteria from them will infect it. I went in pools after a few months, and i didn't have any problems. Also what are these black holes you guys are talking about on your piercing? I never had them so i cant help you with it sorry. :( And about sleeping on your stomach, if it doesn't hurt you, then go ahead, but it might get caught and pull. If you are in the middle of a sports season or about to start one, you might want to wait until it's over so that it can heal before you start it again, and also so that it doesn't get caught or pulled by accident when your'replaying them. Rite no offence 2 all u ppl wantin 2 pierce their own bellies, but i think its a really stupid idea. I got mine dun on saturday @ a proper place with a titanium banabell, which is the best metal 2 use coz theres less than a 3% risk of irritation, but its gotta b polished n smooth. Also, everything they use is sterile, n they no the proper way of piercing, not sum do it urself thing a lot of u ppl seem 2 b doin. Im from England n i noticed a lot of u r American, but mine cost �35, so work out how much it is 4 u. 4 those hu do it urselves coz u dont want ur parents findin out, y cant u go 2 a piercing place urself n get it dun, coz surely they'll find out even if u do it urself, specially if u get an infection! U should neva use safety pins, or ne hpusehold needle, cos theyre not pure n contain a lot of bad substances which can irritate. My advice 4 ne1 is 2 go 2 a proper piercing studio where u'll get the PROFESSIONAL advice u all need, n not ppl thinkin they no best hu really dont av a clue. How hard is it 2 ring up a piercer n ask n get the correct advice rather than this? I dont think a lot of u av much sense, so its ur own fault if u do a bodge job urself n get infected. It ent that expensive, so get it dun properly!!!!

Hey you guys! It's me again! I got my belly button pierced Yesterday, this is what goes down: 1: you go to the front register (you have to go with a parent if you're under 18) you have to have your birth certificate, school i.d. or state i.d., and parent's driving license (if you go with a parent). 2: they introduce you to your piercer,and ask you or your parent (usually your parent) to fill out a piercing release form. 3:After the form is filled out and signed, they ask you to pick out a ring or barbel (usually a barbell because it doesn't get caught on your clothing as easily). 4: they take you into the piercing room and have you sit or lay on the piercing chair/table while they sanitize everything or get everything ready. 5:they have you stand straight with your arms to your sides while you look straight forward (you MUST keep your body straight!Which means, NO looking down at them!) 6: You lay back down and they clean your belly button (make sure to try to clean it before you leave!)and sanitize where they are going to pierce. 7:They have you move closer on the table/chair, (sometimes they give you a numbing solution) then, (and sometimes they put a clamp on the spot they are going to pierce but for me they didn't) they begin to pierce you, it should go REALLY fast, they don't pause...they just do it. 8: They open a sterilized package with your new belly button ring in it and put it through your brand new belly piercing (which doesn't hurt because it's in shock). 9:they clean it one last time and have you take a look in a body mirror they have. 10: then you pay and give a tip and they give you a baggy with a little back of sea salt and a pamphlet on taking care of it. I have my belly button peirced and have had alot of comments about it. In fact, my best friend's mom thinks it looks trashy, but you cant think about what other think of it, it's really cute and my other best friend just got hers done about five weeks ago. So if you want to get it done and have permission then do it and dont be afraid. It doesnt hurt and it looks really cute when its healed and you have a new ring or bar in it!! Oh, and I got mine done with a ring... Whats the problem with a ring? I mean I never really got it caught or anything and I'm a dancer and costumes and crap and it didnt get caught. And my best friend who has her'sdone, her mom has her'stoo and she has a bar and it gets caught all the time. But whatever, all I complained about was it being surgical steel! lol But really, dont care what anyone thinks and if you are getting it done, relax! The worse thing you can do when they're peircing it is tense up!

hey guys i heard all your stories sum are mad crazy i mean PEACRING it urslef you gotta be outta urMIND but w/e!...well let me tell you truely is doesn't hurt at all! My sister made me go first cuz she wimped out and i am only 15 and she is 17!We both got a ring in it and like everyone else said its way better because it stay cleaner than with a barbell! If you ask the person who peirced you what size gage u should get they will know and tell you trust me mine did1 just a lil extra advice!:)We begged my mom for months and kept reasuring here that we wouldnt look like sluts and so on! So finally she let us....its been 5months since i got mine done and it still gets a little crusty sumtimes but thats only because i do cheerleading and move alot and when i first got it done it didnt have much time for it to heal only about a week cuz i do dancing also so i was moving aorund a lot and thats not good for it ....u should stay to a mininum of just walking or running dont be too hard on it or it will never heal but i got mine done professionally and its soo much better! and they told me it takes 1 year for it to totally heal up and always wash it 2 times a day if you do that u'llbe set..but now i luv my belly button ring its soo fun to have and for people to see they always tell me it soo cute! <3 Ya Lindsay

Ok kiddos, belly piercing is not very bad at all. I know you want it really badly, but please don't get it without parental permission if you are underage. I have had my belly done twice (in the same spot) the first time I did it myself cuz I was too young and my parents wouldn't let me. That was a mistake. Although it didn't hurt very much (if you are going to do it yourself which I do not by ne means recommend to anyone, order a kit that contains the proper materials (forceps, a 14g stainless steel needle, and a 14g stainless steel ring or banana bell)it's about 20 bucks for a kit on-line and prolly 5 for shipping so just suck it up) it was a mistake because not only did it get infected cuz I used improper materials (I used a household needle that was too small and a hoop earing which was also too small, that is never a good idea because it promotes infection) but my mom came in on me one day when I was sleeping and found me lying on my back with my shirt up a bit exposing my belly and thought it was a clip on since I was only in 7th grade, she was curious and pull it out----lets just say i woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. The bottom line is just tell your parents or at least lock ur doors when you sleep, but telling the parents is better, try to reason with them or make a deal that usually work, good grades for a piercing. So the home piercing was not a pleasant experience....I just turned 18 and decided to get it done professionally. That was the smartest thing I had ever done. The people there will help you with anything. Here is how it works. I went in with my best friend, we signed up on the waiting list (we waited 20 mins) and filled out the release form (just saying that we understand that there is a risk of infection and that I am who I said I was and I am really 18) the place I went to was called body art tattoos and its in san antonio tx, it only cost $10--5 for the piercing, 5 for the ring itself....I had called around and the avg price around town was $30 but the guy at this place specializes in piercings so he bought all the supplies crazy cheap so he could deal with a high volume of customers...when you do look for a piercer make sure they have been around a while and are recommended....this place had been open for 25 yrs and I have friends who said it was great...and it was...so the 20 mins passed and they called my name. I walked in to a little room with a dentist like chair that leans back...they guy was very nice and very talkative (the good ones are cuz it calms you and is distracting so u don't worry too much about the piercing, it kinda takes it off ur mind) he took about 10 mins getting out all the supplies...each one in a sterilized packaging...he had me stand up and lift up my shirt a bit...he examined my belly about 3 times and make his mark and checked it so it was centered....then he clamped the forceps on so that he would know where the mark was easier....then he had me lay down in the chair and it leaned back so my body was flat...the forceps felt like a little pinch it wasn't so much a hurt as an uncomfortable feeling but it wasn't unbearable by ne means...he grabbed the needle and was talking to me and the only think i felt was a little prick, I don't think it was like a bee sting, cuz that hurts, again it wasn't a hurt so much as an awkward sensation that didn't even last a second..before I knew it the ring was in and he gave me some sea salt (to make a rinse--using a sea salt rinse approx. 1/4 tsp sea salt to 1 cup water once a day will speed up healing process) and antiseptic solution to clean the piercing. That is another reason to go to a professional, they will give you a detailed aftercare procedure, but here is the gist of it, you only need to clean it 2-3 times per day depending on ur activity level, of course if you sweat a lot you should clean it more but no more than 3 tims a day--DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS DO NOT CLEAN IT MORE THAN 3 TIMES/DAY AND BY ALL MEANS DO NOT PLAY WITH IT AND ALWAYS WASH YOUR HAND THOROUGHLY BEFORE TOUCHING IT, ALWAYS!!!!! The piercer guy said that a navel piercing take the longest of ne piercing to heal up to a year. You should never change the piercing before it has had at least a month to heal. For me since my parents still don't know (even though I'm 18) the guy ordered a special clear flexi banana bell but will not give it to me for at least a month and even then he wants me to come back to him so he can change it for me (no charge of course) so I don't risk infection or scarring, when in doubt--leave it in....the avg time it takes to heal well enough that you can change it yourself is 2 months--please don't change it before this--even if you think it is healed---bellies are notorious for appearing healed but they really aren't. As for swimming, about a month for pools at least 6 months for ne thing else and I would advise a water proof bandage for about a year...showering is fine its actually the best/easiest time to clean ur piercing...there should not be very much bleeding and it should only occur with in the first hour or so, after that it should stop...call ur piercer if it continues...also the wound will be tender for at least a week but prolly two, the first 2-3 days it will be hardish to bend over or twist but after that it becomes progressively easier, just watch out, be really cautious for the first few weeks....there will be a little purple bruise that will be there no more that 3 days but there will be a red ring around the wound for at least a week its a sign of the healing process--don't worry unless it doesn't go away in about two weeks--just clean it well, give it a sea salt rinse, and please don't touch it :) good luck it really is worth it in the end if you take care of it :)

Hey evryone!i jus got my belly button done about 1-2 months ago?? I woudlnt recommend it you doing it yourself because if something goes wrong u'll hv a scar there for the rest of your life and thas jus too bad.. gO to some professional place t get it done because they know what to do...when you get there its no big deal..when i went to get minez done they guy told me to choose which one i wanted..then he told me it would take about 15-20 minutes to sterilize it..so while waiting i was jus lookin at sum other stuff they had there..neways..i was kinda nervousa b/c i always get nervous when talkin abou needles..I dont even know my blood type!!! neways o we went in there and he told me to stand up...then he got a cotton swab and cleaned my belly button with some yellowish nasty looking stuff then he told me i could sit down.then he came bak and asked me to stand up, he marked where the piercing was gunna b done then he got some tool to help it get it done on the right place i dunno what it called..then i saw him gettin the needle and all that crap and i was really nnervous..then he told me to sit back down again, after that i didnt see anything...i felt a pinch..it hurt but JUST A LITTLE like its just as if someone just pinched you..then it felt a little warm when i left there and it was very sensitive like id feel it when my shirt touched it...then its no big deal just make sure youre not playing around with it so it wont get infected and also make sure you clean it twice a day with ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP. no alcohol or anythin like that beause it can dry your piercing and its not good...also he told me that time varies as of speaking of how long it takes to heal ..it depends on your immunity on how healthy you are, and of course how well you take care of it...i got a gold banana shaped thingy..gold is more expensive but its what most people are not allergic too..i had to spend a little more because of that and its deffinetly worth it...Its all healed alreadi but i havent changed it b.cuz i like it...AND OOO..MY mom doesnt know i got it done..shell eventually find out but i hope not too soon..prolly over the summer..so alla u out there thinking of gettin your belly button pierced but yourself..DONT!!! oke people i need some hepl...im about to pierce mah friends belly button and sh is relly scarde...she wants to no if it really hurts dat bad....also i got mahn peirced the other day..like 4 dys ago and it was with a banana barbell and no it dont hurt.....it is realli sore like when u bend down though...although when u get used to it like mah mom......then yeah it doesnt hurt....i also got mah nose peirced and i did it mah self and im hella scared right now cuz mah nose s turning blackish purple around the diamond......nose ring....and yeah is thurr any kind a meds i can put on it to stop infection..help....... send answers to BaByCaykZ44@yahoo.com thanx luv yah bunchez muah! Hey everyone...stop freakin out about the piercings!!! My advice is to go to a PROFESSIONAL to get the piercing, because that gives you a much lower risk of it getting infected. My friend was going to pierce hers herself, but I talked her out of it, because I think that's one of the stupidest things anyone could ever do!!! No offense to the people who did do that but... Anyway, I got mine done about a month ago and I can sleep on it and everything and it doesn't hurt. It did hurt when I got it done, but that's because I just put a hole through my body that wasn't there to begin with. People who do it themselves, because their parents said no... BAD IDEA!!! Your parents are going to find out sometime, so why not just do it in front of them instead of waiting to tell them??? But I still think doing it yourself is bad!!! If you're afraid of getting it done because of sports, don't be. I got it done and went to cheerleading practice the next day and it was fine. I got hit a couple of times, but that doesn't hurt very bad either so go ahead and do it!!! If anyone wants another question answered write me back and I'll be glad to answer!!! GET YOUR PIERCINGS DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL!!! ~Shortney~

heyyy lol i got mine 2 dayz ago , n it didnt hurt at all !!! it lookz great !!! but i think im kinda obssesed with cleaning it , cuz i dunt want to get infection , but den i read an article dat ur not supposed to clean it too much cuz it prevents da body to fite da bacteria by it self soo now i clean it 3 times a day , i dunt touch it as much as i used too , n if i have to i wash my hands with anti- bacterial soap !!! FOR ALL YOU PEOPEL WHO WANT TO PIERCE IT DEMSELFZ , DUNT DO IT !!! GET IT PROFESSIONALYY !!!!! u neva know how itz gona nturn out if u do it urself !!!! it mite be fine n it mite get infected , just dutn take dat risk , u gonan regret it !!! well i pierced my own bellybutton with a sterile needle and cleaned it with alchohol and everything. but the thing is... i got infected and now its almost going to come off. shyet this suks like a muthafuka. well im just mad but seriously though how high are u suppose or how low are u suppose to pierce the damn thing. i know,i know.... i shouldve got it done professionally but u know what ma parents wont let me so i just had to. well im just going to have to pierce it all over again well here goes nothing. BUT YES>> about the "black hole" i knoe what yur talking about. i have it now. hopefully it'll go away because it is sooo UGLY! and GROSS!!! well just be careful all ya'lldat are doing it yurself. well pleazz if u have any suggestions and anything to hep me out just hit me up in my email address: luvu_furever@yahoo.com well enjoy my eplicit entry!

I came here the night before I made up my mind to pierce my belly button and lets just say things didn't go the way I wanted them to. I got a sewing needle n slowly and carefully stuck it in. The worst part was when it had to come out of the other side. You dont feel anything if you use ice to numb it first. The stupid mistake I made was using the sewing needle because then I tried taking it out to put the earring in and I couldn't find the hole going out. It was awful. Now I;m thinking of waiting I week for this hole to heal and doing it again on Saturday but its just one of those things I have to have right now. I'll numb it with ice again and stick the earring through. If you do decide to do this make sure you use a cleaning fluid so it doesn't get infected. For example if you ever got your ears pierced and they gave you a solution to put on it try that. It should work pretty well. Good luck! Its not as bad as it sounds.

Ok...you can so use a safety pin...It makes it easier that a needle if you're doing it yourself.Both ends of a needle are pointed so it hurts like hell for the piercer. Use a safety pin but not too big. The bigger it is the harder it is to do. and the more it hurts.My friend did mine for me and I did hers. It's better to make sure it's clean, Don't use Vaseline(it traps bacteria), use a smaller safety pin and let that one heal for a while. then stretch it out with a larger needle and then stick in the barbell. My fiends and mine are awesome... don't worry though. the bottom of the piercing is really hard to push through but don't stop.If you take it out then you still have a bit of a whole and it hurts like hell. Get a sharp safety pin and don't stop pushing. It'll go through eventually. Well..hope that helped

Hey Everyone. I realli want mi belly button pierced. I was thinken a while ago to maybey do it miself, but after re-searcing alot about it, Ive decided to get it professionally done.Mi mom doesnt want me to get one. But ive been beggin and doing all the research on it. So I think im going to go get it done with sum friends. Since its in the middle of the summer are yew allowed to swim with it pierced? How long do yew have to wait if not? People say not to do it younger then 18 because yore body is not fully developed and it will stretch. Well if yore younger then 18 (like im) yew get fatter it could also stretch so i dunt realli see the difference. Because at 15 yew dunt realli grow much more:S Im realli confused, but if yew could help me out b4 I get it done that would be great. Thnx x0x

I had my belly button pierced on March 27th 2005 just 2 days before my birthday. I got it done professionally at Splash of Color in East Lansing, Mi. Splash of Color is very clean and they tell you the procedure and how they clean everything there.Its a really nice place!If your under 18(i was turning 17) you usually have to have ur parents signature and you have to sign a contract saying you'll clean your piercing with sea salt. DO NOT use Neosporin or alchole it ruins the stainless steel and dosent help heal it. The procedure is really easy...1st they clean the area and then they clamp together the skin at the top of your belly button and they count to three and stick a sharp needle through your skin. They then put a barbell through the hole, and walla its over. Quick and simple and it dosent even hurt!!! So yeah They say for it to heal completley it takes a year, but after 3 months you can put a new ring in. Oh after 3 months, if you take ur ring out, and wanto put it back in... its kinda hard, so pinch the skin and stick it through the bottem and screw the ball on and your done. Girls dont be scared, it DOSENT hurt!!! And dont do it yourself... thats stupid!!! I do have one question are all belly rings the same gage or size?

ive had my belly button periced since feburary and honestly, it doesnt hurt alot at all as long as u dun think about it and u put ur mind on something else you wont even notice, just make sure you dont change it very often i mean if u want to change it once in a blue moon its not going to kill you, but if your constantly changing it, especailly to heavy dangling ones then your going to have a problem because the skin will get thinner and thinner and soon you wont even have a piercing because the two holes will be connected:\|..pretty scary i know..its temptin to change it but u hav to force yourself for the first cuple of months AT LEAST to change it to a max of once or twice..

People, take a chill pill. I am getting mines done this afternon and i'mnot at all nervous. My best friend and my sister had it done and they are fine!! No affence to those of you who are doing it yourself but that is crazy..........this is your body your talking about, you can't just stick a needle or a safety pin in and be done with it. Get it done proffesionaly!! Also don't worry about infection....if you clean it regularly it will be fine. If you are worried about pain...don't....a 2 second nip..thats it!! If you are still unsure leave it for now..until you are..but trust me you won't have any horror storys to tell like black rings or whatever..take good care of it and your fine...honestly :D

Hey every1. I read this site when I was looking up about getting my belly-button pierced & u know alot of these answers scare ppl! Okay I got mine doen last weekend and it did hurt but not even as bad as I thought! Just try and not get too nervous and try to not think to much about it. They say that the clamp hurts more than the piercing itself & I say it's different for everybody. I thought the piercing hurt a littel more and my sister who got it done right after me, said that she didnt even feel the clamp & hardly the needle! Mine's still red but I keep washing it and it really helps. But remember to not wash it with the seasalt too much cuz it can burn it. I've pierced my belly button and two of my friends, no infections and definitely no black rings. I used a proper barbell on my friends but a plain ear-ring on mine and my other friends. I iced my belly button to the point where I could poke it with the needle and feel nothing and then burnt the needle I used. I scrubbed the area I was piercing with dettol and then made the mark with a permanent marker. I lined it up and then just shoved the needle in. It was like being winded and having your hair pulled for about 1 minute then the pain died down and I pulled the needle out and put the ring in. It was red and swelled for two weeks but I kept cleaning it fully three times a day and the swelling and redness died down. Please, if your going to do it yourself use every health precaution possible and if you put a ring in (which is easier to clean) make sure you don't where clothing it can catch and rip on easily.

hey, i just got mi belly pierced like 6 days ago, and i have a dancing concert in one day...i found the pain of it gets taken away if you take neurone or panadol... because dancing and bending really hurts... i had mine done with a banana bar and i have had no problems..(touch wood). swimming pools arent good for the first two weeks because chlorine can burn the tissue in your stomach. And also, the black dot or ring around the top of your belly is caused by a level of iron in your body and the jewelry in your belly has a high level of it and your stomoach is reacting to it. But it should eventually go away. AND DO NOT TOUCH IT... because your piercing is like a bruise... the more its left alone.. the quicker it heals. Hi, I was looking at this website for my essay Re: how Media affects the fashions of teens. I'm a University student, and I've had lots of friends with navel piercings, I know you guys are probably not going to listen to me, but anyways here it goes: Lots of my friends have had scaring because of infection, not right away, about a few months later. So if your going to go through with this, just keep in mine that you may end up with a scar. Best way not to get one would be to get it done professionally, with a needle because they can be cleaned easier. Those who are being sneaky and want to get one without the parents knowing, I'd say it would be better to convince a friends parent or a adult friend to lie and say they are your relative so you can get it done professionally. Good luck and happy piercing, btw you can but a band-aid or some gauze and tape over your new piercing if your afraid it will get pulled out in sports.

OK. People piercing your belly button isn't all that bad. I went into my bathroom with a 16G needle you can get them at tractor supply. STEP 1: I soaked it in peroxide mixed with hot water for 5 minutes. STEP 2: I got the ring ready and made a mark where I was going to place the piercing. I was listening to shedding skin by pantera so that helped clear my mind somewhat. STEP 3:I cleaned my BB then jabbed the needle in quick. YES it hurt, but it takes a price. I finally got it done and it was crooked. So I had to do it again. I didn't feel it at all the second time tho. then I put in the ring. It didn't get infected for a week because I cleaned it every other hour with peroxide and neosporine. The basics: Getting the actual piercing done is not painless, but it's not unbearable. It's just like getting a shot, but a little more intense when they hit the "meaty" center part (this is coming from a person who at least blacks-out, sometimes faint, anytime I get a shot, etc). If you're scared, bring a friend & hold their hand while it's happening. The banana barbell is most-widely suggested because using a loop-shaped ring is much more likely to get moved from side-to-side, ripping the healing tissue & making it easier for your body to reject by "pushing-out". Also, you can put any shape of ring into it after it has healed w/a banana barbell. Redness around the holes is normal. Some puss is normal. If the puss is green-ish, it's infected. Don't use Neosporin, Hydrogen Peroxide, or Alcohol. Use saline or a sea salt solution TWICE a day and wash the piercing w/a germicidal/anti-microbial soap ONCE a day (No MORE, no LESS). Don't play w/your piercing and move the ring aroudn for the heck of it. You should only move it around while you're cleaning it to ensure that everything gets cleaned. Don't pick at the "crusties" that form on your jewelry; Soak them off w/the saline solution. Always wash your hands before touching your piercing. Always pat-dry your piercing w/a paper towel or tissue; Cloth towels carry germs. Call your piercer if you ever have ANY questions. They give you their phone number for a reason. -Engel

heyhey guys. im 15 &my mom wont let me get mine done. i figured that ill just do it myself and not let her know. ill give it time to heal until summer and then maybe tell her. but the thing you want to do to pierce it yourself is you neeeeeeed a hollow needle, or surgical needle like from the hospitals. one huge way these things so wrong is piercing it with a bad metal, like a safety pin. you need to make sure you sterilize the needle and the barbell before you do anything. if you use fire, make sure your wipe off the black ashes. either use rubber gloves, or make sure your hands are thoroughly washed. pierce it quickly from the INSIDE of your belly button to the OUTSIDE. this makes the process 20 times easier because you dont want it migrating during the process. make sure you can clean it 2 times a day, if you do more times than that you can dry out the piercing. kk good luck guys!!! :]

Hey...I pierced my belly two weeks ago...The dude used a barbell, and it started to get dark around the holes...so I went to another person and I had to put a ring instead because the barbell was too tight and was squeezing my skin...the ring is easier to clean and move around which can cause the healing process to be better...I'm Black (African American) and I was scared it was a problem getting darker...but my cousin said hers did the same thing...and she got it pierced 4 months ago...its getting lighter so the darkening was due to it healing...so it doesnt hurt...at all...a little pinch...and thats it...you gotta bathe with dial soap and clean it with h2ocean spray or bactine...they're really good...use cottin swabs...and dont touch it...pus and itching are normal signs of healing...and wait 6 months to change it...its gonna take a while to heal so be careful and patient...hope this helps

ok, i'm getting my bellybutton pierced for my bday in novemeber when i turn 13. 2 of my cousins have it pierced. don't ask if it hurt say ts or doesnt and dont say that it doesnt hurt or it does. everyone is different. i was with them when they got it pierced and for one of them it hurt alot and the other didn't feel a thing. i'm most likely to be inbetween b/c i tried it myself once before and it was a bit painful, but pain i could handle. anyway, it's almost april now and i still have a long way till my bday but i'm still nervous even if it's months away. now, with the parent situation, my dad said no, but my mom said she'll think about it, and my mom is very percise, if she says doesnt want me to she says NO. but, knowing her, a "i'll think about it" usually means yes so i'm very excited. but my dad is ok with anything on the ear but when i asked my mom if i can get my cartilage pierced, she was like um, NO. so thats weird because ears are w/e ya know? but i'm soo0o happy because when the time comes to ask if i can get it done again when shes done "thinking about it" it WILL be a yes. so when that time comes, i'll write back again telling you her answer. then, after my bday when i have i done, i'll tell you the results. byee!!

omfg... **DO !NOT! PIERCE YOUR BELLY BUTTON WITH A NEEDLE OR BY YOURSELF!!! I cant believe ppl would even think of doing that. If you were thinking about doing that you don't know enough about piercings to have it done, id suggest doing your research before piercing yourself. You have to get it done professionally because they use a GAUGED HOLLOW NEEDLE which means a big chunk of your skin comes out with the needle once they stick it through. This is because the Barbell/ring they put through it is thicker than the kind of earing you use for your earlobe. (( you can only use a needle if its your earlobe, any other piercing is done with a hollow needle)). Ive had mine done for about 5 months and its still healing, but I'm happy with it. I JUST WANT IT TO BE DONE ALREADY!! lol oh, and i think you should always use a barbell, I think the ring looks really weird. And the barbell is WAY cuter. if you still want to do it yourself, whatever. learn the hard way... and besides, you'll never be able to buy other rings/barbells cuz they wont fit, the gauge is bigger. .:AMANDA MARiE:.

Im 15.. & i pierced my bellybutton myself when i was 14 .. i guess its ok to do it urself if ur bold enough & arent scared to take a chance.. well im pretty damn crazy & this is how i did it: i got a sewing pin // cleaned everything off with rubbing alcohol.. & then simply pushed it in while laying down.. it didnt hurt but it was hard gettin it out the other end because of the hard, white tissue well i finally got it thruu & i left it in for a week & it stretched out then i put in a barbel.. i had it since.. arghh im 15 now its been about half a year & i decided to repierce my belly button in a higher spot =/ so i redid it the same way i did the first tiem.. & hopefully it dont get infected. thass all i gotta say.

hey a lot of you people seem very uneducated is it that hard to find a leginameant site? anyways -no you are not supposed to go swimming in an open body of water (pools,lakes,oceans,hot tubs...) for 6-8 weeks after being peirced -you should change your shirt regularily (duh) -you should cleanse it 2-3 times a day with 2 tablespoons of non-iodized salt per an 8 ounce glass(don't cleanse it too much though because thats not good either)for about 8-12 weeks -do not rotate or change your peircing for at least 6-8 weeks (you need to let it heal, if you notice the skin getting thicker or a small ring of darker color around your peircing this is normal) and PLEASE do not peirce it yourself if your parents said no DO NOT peirce it yourself trust me however if you are SURE that you want to this remember to try and use a LARGE SEWING NEEDLE and sterlize it and the area to be peirced with a lemon (or lime)or a sterile solution DO NOT use rubbing alchol and be sure that you buy the peircing before you attempt to peirce yourself. but keep in mind that you would definetly be better off getting it done at a professional peircing parlor. If you do get it done professionaly make sure they use a needle and that they sterilze their equipment PROPERLY. Because barbells are easier to take care of i do reccomend that you get it peirced with a curved or straight barbell, if you wish to wear a ring instead in the future that is fine I hope this has helped someone out there and that I didn't write all this for nothing please be safe

this is so confuseing everyone is telling me different things on how to take care of your belly button so it wont get infected i got mine done like two weeks ago.when i got it done i was on antibiotics then three days later i was off the antibiotics then it started to turn red which i heard is normal for it to trun red but the whole time in these two weeks i have been using proxiode and bactine in the shower i use the antibaciral soap and i dont touch it at all.i used the sea salt soakes twice but i thought it wasnt working as well as the bactine its still red but not very much and it doesnt hurt at all see this is why im so confused cause people tell me its not good at all to use bactine or anything like that but i use it and it seems to work i just need some help!!!!!!

hi, i got my belly done bout 3 months ago and everyone is asking does it hurt but its all different it didnt hurt me much i thort it wood hurt heaps more but its all how u handle pain. wat they do- well this is how they did mine. she made me stand up strait and relax, she marked were she was going to put it then asked me to lye down on the chair thing (like a dentist chair) she clamped my belly button nd shoved the needle throo then took out the lining around the needle ( coz the needle is hollow) then put the belly bar throo then took the linging from the neelde out did up the bar and it was over! and i got it done with a bar and it didnt hurt i could sleep on it that week. mine costed $50 but peo-ple tell me i got riped off so shop around just make sure the take all the needles and things out of sterile pokkets. mine didnt pus much only after i went swimming and just make sure u clean it after u get out of the pool strait away then u will be ok people say that it wall get infected n stuff if u go swimming but it wont if you clean it reaaly well anyways im off catch ya... jaz

hey , well my friend and i are getting our belly buttons pierced sometime this week. we're only 13 but we've been wanting to get it done forever. alot of people on here are saying that 13 is too young and you should wait cause your body is still growing. is that really true ? we've been wanting it since we were like 8 years old. i really want to get it and im just wondering if people would reccomend a ring or a banana barbell or whatever. i think that the barbell look soo much cuter ! but if the ring is better then i will go with the ring first and change it later. and if i do go with the ring first , how long do i have to wait to put the barbell in? and how long do i have to wait to go swimming? cause i have a pool and i love to swim so ? yeah , and i talked to a professional and she said that it wouldnt affect me playing sports but just put a band-aid over it to avoid it getting caught or anything. please help me. !

When piercing your belly button is it alright to use a barbell. I've talked to some people and they all used rings, But I want to use a barbell, is it more painful or anything? Because i really want to get it done with a barbell and not a ring.

Actually, you are supposed to use a banana barbell when you get your bellybutton pierced. That is the type that is slightly curved. When you use a ring, it's easier to catch on things and easier to get an infection, plus it may migrate out quicker. With the banana barbell the lower bead sits on the inside of your belly button which alieviates pain during healing, and doesn't get caught on things. If the piercer says that only a ring is used for it, DON'T GET IT DONE BY THAT PERSON. Find a piercer who knows what he/she is doing!

Well, i got mine done with a ring and it never got infected or caught on anything...and they are not supposed to do it with a barbell and if they won't do it w/ a barbell it doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing. It doesn't make a difference whether you get it done w/ a barbell or a ring.

Well i just got mine done today and it didn't hurt at all and after you feel a little pain and that is all and i went out and bought the right stuff to take care of it and i am going clean mines 3 times a day instead of 2 times and i want to take care of it and plus my parents don't know and i am going to keep it from them as long as i can and it don't hurt at all i give it 2 thumbs up and encourage people that it don't hurt at all and go get it done and it is really cool and that all i have to say about it.

hey i got my belly button pierced today and it doesn't even hurt when they pierce it. but they first mark a dot where they want to pierce it then u see if its ok then you lay back in the chair and they put the clamp on and it hurt but only little and then they are talking to u and they stick the neede in and nothin even hurts cause your mind isn't on the piercing thing. I got pierced with a banana barbell and it doesn't even hurt at all expect when you bend over and then it hurts. i hope you like my experience and I'm telling u get it done nothing is stopping u and it doesn't even hurt you so get it done- TaRrA -TaRrA

Hi there. I had my piercing done 2 months ago, and last week I felt this horrible pain, so I rang the people who pierced me and they recommended me a cream used to heal and soothe nipples when breastfeeding. The name of the cream is Avent and it really helps. I bought my one in London.

My friend had her bellybutton pierced and took it out, hers went black and it woz gross, not its just a slight red colour, i don't fink that its anything 2 worry about. I have pierced my own belly button twice and it is fine. Although, I would advise you guys to get it done professionally....you won't die if you do it yourself. And oh yeah, I tried hiding it from my mom for awhile....she found out. They ALWAYS do. lol. Good luck guys! The little pain is worth it!

I'd suggest you get it done professionally!! It's worth it.. i got mine a few months ago and it kinda has a bubble on it- and i got it professoinaly done.. but still.. its defnitally not worth all the extra mantience if u have to do it urself..

guys woah yall are stressin! ive peirced my friends ears and one friends bellybutton she loves it and it is good...we just stuck a needle through it...it took some work seroiusly to get it through but um yeah thats about it...um ya well c yall later...***aLi***

well um redhottapple22@yahoo.com DUH! no offence but um HELLO?!?! you just stuck a needle/saftey pin/ anything else you use and it turns red duh....but you guys IT DOESNT HURT!!! actually i think that ice hurts more than the piercing does ESPECIALLY YOUR EARS!!! no pain...maybe like a pinching but nothing to scream about lol okay later ~Ali

I wanna get my belly done but i dont want to get it done professionaly becasue my mom dont know so i'mgonna do it by myself should i perice it with the earing its self?? or use a needle and what are the possablities of it getting infected and turning black

okay where the hell did you get "and turning black" ?????? MAN your source is a dumbass. anyway your belly button isnt hard to do its the same as anything else BUT hey a word of advise from someone who has pierced before? get like nesporin or vasoline and put it on the saftey pin/needle before you shove it in its a lot easier to get in and make sure you dont get the stuff all over youself and the saftey pin/ needle cuz it might slip and yeah that would suck k later !!!ALI OOPS!!!!

I got my belly button pierced last week Spring Break and its looking great! I got mine done with a barbell and it didn't hurt--quick pinch thats it! :) I love it. Its looking good...just getting used to having something on my stomach!

i got my belly pierced about 3 weeks ago. I love it. It didn't hurt when they did it, it did hurt a little after they did it, but the soreness only last for about 1 or 2 weeks. I wash it 2-3 times a day. i can't wait change it.

Hey! I'm 13 and my mom said i could get my belly button pierced if i get a 90 or higher on my report card...i'm trying really hard, so I'm going to get it done...i play softball during the summer...and i was thinking about when i should get it done...should i get it done in June during softball or wait till August when softball is over? i also do gymnastics, is there anyway i can still do gymnastics w/ a belly button ring? please ans. back....my email address is gymnasthottie19@hotmail.com... My mom is letting me get my belly button pierced in June when i go to Vegas...so i will be gettin it done professionally. But...my best friends mom wont let her get it done when she goes with me...so i was gonna pierce it for her. Ive pierced my sisters ears before...but im not quite sure how to do a belly button. I have a regualar needle...that im plannin on cleaning with rubbing alcolhol...i read the thing about putting vasoline on it to help the needle go in easier!....so please put a reply on here and tell me if its lookin like im doing anything wrong...or if theres something else i need to do.
