There are many holidays in Islam.  Ramadan is one which is when Muslims fast from sunup until sundown.  There are two Eids. Eid al Fitr and another.  The Islamic new year is another big holiday in Islam.  All of these holidays are important and contribute to the culture of Islam a great deal.

Two references on Islamic holidays I like are 1. Muhammad Hamidullah, Introduction to Islam (also available on the Internet now) and 2. Gustave von Grunebaum, Islamic holidays or similar title - a whole book.

Dr Hamidullah'sbook p.230 lists the following holidays/feasts. They are more significant and universal than others:
1.The beginning of the Hijri year.
2. The Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
3.The first of the month of Ramadan of the Hijri calendar.
4. The tenth of the month of the Hajj Pilgrimage.

There are other feasts which have accrued a kind of holiness and spirituality among groups of Muslims. There is a Mevlaana Rumi feast in Turkey which is rather well known. There is an analogous festival in the US, in North Carolina I believe, at the same time - in December. This has a relatively recent history, and from what I have heard is gaining in popularity in the US.
