They are also known as "Italian Greyhounds."  From what I know these are very delicate dogs. Their bones are fine and therefore break easily. His coat is short and glossy. It requires little grooming except to rub silk on him daily to keep him a shining like a "porcelain model." The colors are black, blue, cream, fawn, red, and white or any of these colors broken with white. Breeders have to steer a fine line between producing a slightly coarse animal or an all to delicate one. He does not take kindly to cold weather. He is not suited to life in an energetic family household, until children are old enough to understand the problems of his lightweight stature. He is about 25.5 cm high at the withers and weighs about 3 kg so there is not much of him. He is an intelligent dog too. Hope this helps and good luck! Tanisha

you are probably refering to a WHIPPET. They are very sturdy and make excellent pets. Have a very quiet nature, don't bark excessively and are very expensive.

Italian Greyhound is the dog we are talking about.  I bought one, and it is expensive too.  Probably not one of the most expensive though.  Very intelligent, social, and loves people and other animals more than I have seen another animal do so in my life.  Loves my cat too.

What is the main difference between a whippet and an Italian GreyHound?  I am in the state of Florida by Orlando.  Temperatures on the Hotside of 102 because of humidity.  I have a 8 year old daughter and a 11 year old son.  A 1.5 year doberman/german shepard mix and a 4.2 year terrier/??? mix.  Would this be a good choice for a dog, or do you think it would be not suited for the environment?

Itailian greyhounds every thing said above is true except having to spray oil on them daily, yes you have to but maybe once a month. The one thing that you need to keep in mind is that they (IG's a very difficult to potty train it takes alot of time, but once they are house broke they great. as for the cold some people have litter box trained their IG's Please keep in mind that their are alot of back yard breeders. Never buy a IG from a pet store. The best thing to do is go on line and get in touch with one of the Italian Greyhound rescue people and ask them for good breeders in your area.I learned this the hard way I purchased a IG from a pet store and 2 years latter he died on the operating table. How these dogs are breed is very important. They are very lovable want to sleep with you. hope this helps..

The dog I am trying to find out about is a very small greyhound, a miniature of the whippet. Weights about 10 to 15 pounds at the most. Would appreciate it if anyone knows more about them.

I was wondering how big these so called "miniature" greyhounds grow. I was thinking of purchasing one myself. I live in a small home that would only oblige me to having a small dog.
