I had recently downloaded Macromedia Fireworks, and I had removed it because I no longer needed it.

Now my PC can't even recognize a JPEG file without opening it in some other program.  You know the .jpg icon I am talking about?!

If someone has answers for me I am more than welcome to them!!  I have tried the setting options as well.  Someone even suggested reformatting my ENTIRE hard drive! I hope it doesn't come to that!

PLEASE HELP!!

Firstly, never listen to anyone who suggests you reformat your entire drive so you can open jpegs.

Fireworks, as with many other image-editing programs sets itself as the default option for opening images(.gif,.jpeg etc). Now that you have removed it, you probably have nothing set as the default - easily fixed.

Right click on the file you wish to open and try OPEN or OPEN WITH depending on your OS.

Do not reformat your hard drive, this is a problem with preferences, and if need be simply re-install fireworks or give macromedia a bell.
