Vapour is liquid turning into a gas under normal conditions; the molecules bouncing around create energy in the liquid, and a few of these molecules get enough energy to change into its gaseous form. Steam is water turning to a gas through boiling.

it is water vapor arising from boiling liquid water.  Steam is hot.  My question though.  When you boil spagetti sauce, or soup, what hits the kitchen ceiling as it condenses?  Spagetti sauce or pure water? In other words am I dirtying new ceiling by cooking with the lid off?  Thank you.
