I think you really have to get to the bottom of WHY you would want a tattoo in the lower-back location. Let's take a look: 1. Because you saw someone else do it. Let's get real...No one really started doing this until around 2000 or so...Since then, it has spread like Syphillis. 2. Because it is quite apparent during doggie-style sex, which is what you probably will or are doing quite a bit of. 3. Because you are slutty in so many obvious ways. Most Slutty girls respond with the lame answers as displayed in the above list. 4. Because you wanted to be like some pop idol. 5. To accentuate your piercings. 6. Because you are either an exotic dancer, whore, or both. 7. Finally, you got a discount when you went with your mom to get one.

Hi. I am the chief nurse anesthetist at my hospital, and I would like to offer some information about the tattoo issue and labor epidurals. My staff of CRNAs administer all the spinals and epidurals at our medical center, and we frequently have people with lumbar region tattoos. While there have been many questions lately regarding whether epidurals through tattoos are safe or not, the bottom line is that we don�t really know. There has been a very small amount written in the anesthesia literature about this issue, and the opinions expressed and the small amount of anecdotal data indicate that epidurals through tattoos have not caused problems, in spite of the theoretical risk of introducing a foreign substance into/near the spinal cord. While epidurals and spinals seem not to cause problems, keep in mind that lower back tattoos have only gained widespread popularity in recent years. Sometimes things that seem safe in the beginning turn out to be the cause of problems, but only after much time and many people have tested it. A good example is the arthritis drug, Vioxx, which was very popular for 5 years, before recently being determined to increase the risk of heart attacks and stroke. We�ll have much better information in 5 or 10 more years to determine if there is any increased risk of tracking a needle through a tattoo to the spine. In the meanwhile, I personally will perform a puncture through a tattoo, but try for a �clean� spot of skin whenever possible. As the location of the epidural can span a wider area than a spinal, there is more latitude to place it above the tattoo sometimes. Your own nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist may choose to do the same, or may feel it safer or more conservative to refuse the procedure if it involves transversing the tattoo. It�s a question you have to take up with the individual performing the procedure, because we each have to make judgements regarding what we feel comfortable with as being safe for the patient. i got a tattoo on my lower back 4 months ago and I'm not going to lie, it hurt. the worst part of getting a tattoo is sitting in the chair, hearing the gun turn on, and just waiting to get it over with. while being tattooed the most painful part of the lower back is over the spine. one untrue rumor that many people still believe is that weight affects the amount of pain that one goes through while getting a tattoo. the only determining factor of pain while getting a tattoo is how many nerve endings you have. some people have little to none nerve endings on their back so it doesn't hurt as bad. other have millions. so, in-so facto, your weight doesn't matter. and to all the people who think the placement of your tattoos says what type of person you are, get a life. your obviously reading too much into other actions and thats just reflecting badly on you. grow up.

I dated a girl several years ago who had a lumbar puncture and her DR said her small of the back tat didn't matter in ANY instance. She also had a tongue ring(played out).She said she would always have it (yeah ,right) I have 3 tats at present. There is gonna a whole generation women who have small of the back tats. Most are unoriginal(dolphins,tribal,sunbursts,fairys,lotus,etc) And most of these women will have them removed, as the present trend already indicate. Tattoos should be extremely personal and special. You are altering your body!!!! Take it seriously I think tinkerbell makes a great point. And I have something to add. I have a MS in sociology from UF. I have loved using my knowledge of subcultures to see the underlying reasons and forces that drive certain behaviors. I always make this next point to people (especially women) when the subject of tats,piercings,etc comes up. Piercings,tats,smoking,(in excess) in women have all been proven to be very solid indicators that she has serious issues with daddy or other abusers/neglectors. Before you get excited I said "solid indicators". Which means that each case is different. However the data is irrefutable. The majority with excessive tats,piercings,smoking,and other deviant behaviors do them for the above stated reason. I and other males have used this info to my benefit to exploit the tatted,chain smoking type females with maybe a few piercings. I am man enough to admit it. These girls are out pornstars,our waitresses,the strippers ,the girls who have 3 kids before age 23, and the girls who are always involved in dramatic and/or bad relationships. I and other guys say thanks for the tats,smoking,and piercings. They help us spot and tag you more quickly.Some men don't need to know the research or to be able to cite case studies. They have picked up on these clues on their own.After a while the personal stats that a guy runs into over the period of dating for 10+ years... it becomes obvious. The indicators don't always work,but the statistical probability that you'll be screwed up by daddy and make easy pickings for us is still way above average. Thanks for flying the flags of abuse/neglect.

I am almost 16 and i really want a tatoo but i am afraid of what it can cause and any health problems or complications that are gunna come with it..for a starter i wanted my itnials little on my wrist but people are scaring me out of it saying its near a vain which is the quikest way into the bloodsteam..plus there saying aids and HIv and all this stuff that is scaring me..i am really serious about getting one and i can get my parents to sign for me ..but i just wanted some feedback from people who have one already about how bad it hurts..the Aids Hiv issue..the vein bloodstream issue and just any other helpful information that you have..please help me out! i really don't think it matters much if you have a tattoo there, ive read on many sites that say it don't really matter. and ive heard alot of quotes from doctors that say they have done it a number of times, so i think it probably depends on the doc. but i have also heard that they have no proof of anything ever happening, so i highhlyyy doubt it can harm you. and if you are having a baby and have a tat there, and your doc wont do it, just go to a new doctor. i have been reading about it for a while because i have a tattoo there and i wanted to know about it. and one more thing, about a tat there being a "tramp stamp". I'm sorry, but that is just sooo stupid. it makes me mad that people say that. it just shows how stupid and narrow minded they are. it doesn't mean that at all! the only person who should say what it means is the person who has it!! obviously if a person says that they are hoe tats, then they don't have any tattoos! i got a tat on my back when i was 14, and i am not and have never been a slut! i think that is a great spot, because its easily covered and its pretty.very feminine.

i have a tattoo on my lower back and i got it there for 2 reasons.for one thats where i thought what i got tattooed,it would look best there.its a cross and i thought it might look funny anywhere else.Also i got it there when i was 19 and could show it off.im only 22 now and still love having it there. i still have the body to show it and iproud of that.I like my tattoo but when ii get married i dont want this big ol tattoo hanging out.and when im 55 i wont be wearing the same clothes that i am today so no one will see it unless i show it to them.its a matter of prefrence and what you think.I love it not but when i get older i might change my mind on wanting people to unwillingly see it so this way they wont even know i have it unless i show it to them.

To the best of my knowledge getting a tattoo on the small of your back should be done after you have had your children if you are planning on having an epidural. I can't speak for everywhere but I know where I live Most Doctors will not do it because of the risks. I agree with the others who said that it may just depend on your Doctor. Take that into consideration. I also feel that a person should not be judged by tattoo placement. An ignorant comment such as "girls with tattoos on the small of their backs are sluts/hoes." Is just like saying all people with blonde hair have green eyes, which is obviously not true. You should do what you like and what makes you happy. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

Wow, this became a pretty heated debate, real mature (pfft!!and u think ur ladies!). any way way i would also like to know the answer to this question because the tattoo i have wanted for years and finally decided on getting i just made the appointment for. The tattoo itself wouldnt make sense on a curvier part of the body so i chose my lower back as a flat flattering surface i can show off and cover when i want. would someone PLEASE answer this for me because even the doctors i have talked to have different opinions. i guess there is no one way or the other, if doctors dont agree.. some women have conflicts others dont even get questioned. thanks i solved my own problem. i'm getting the tattoo on my lower back, the pain of natural child birth is only supposed to be one of the most natural pains a woman endures throughout her lifetime anyway. I'll suck it up like the real woman i am. Thanks for lettin me vent. cya

Most pregnant women who have lower back tattoos can receive epidurals. The exception would be if the tattoo covers a large area and is still "fresh" � meaning the involved skin is still healing. Actually, very few studies have looked at the risks of epidurals in women with lower back tattoos. But there is no conclusive evidence of any adverse effects, such an increased risk of an infection. Most anesthesiologists will give an epidural block to a woman with a lower back tattoo. However, they may try to avoid placing the needle through the tattoo to avoid a small scar that may disfigure the tattoo. If possible, the anesthesiologist will choose nontattooed skin through which to insert the needle. If you have questions or concerns regarding your ability to get an epidural due to a back tattoo, consult your doctor.

I know this is question was posted a while ago, but this may help people doing research like myself. I've done research about the whole epidural thing and most places are saying that there is not enough information for or against. One site saying that it's okay is www.mayoclinic.com/health/lower-back-tattoo/AN01357 I recommend talking with your doctor about the best placement of the tattoo and their opinion. As well, regarding the whole "tramp stamp" topic, I don't believe that at all. I'm waiting until marriage to have sex and I'm planning on having my tattoo on my lower back because the design of my tattoo works there, I can easily hide it, and when I do get pregnant, there won't be stretch marks to ruin it. All in all, its up to the individual about what it means and where to put it.

I have a tattoo on the small of my back and when it was time for my epideral, the doctor would not give me one. She stated that not enough research had been done on the affects of tattoo ink being transfered into my spinal cord during the epideral (infection risk) and would not take the liability. In the end, 12 hours later, I ended up needing a C-Section and they found a doctor to give me a spinal, through my tattoo. Therefore, I believe it depends partly on the doctor performing the ephiderall.

there are many tattoos made everyday!!!.. you cant say its stupid to get a small one on your back cause everyone has it! but you can say that it is stupid to get the same tattoo that just about everyone has..... man just get something that u AREN'T gonna regret.. and remember cheap tattoos aren't good and good tattoos aren't cheap!! DON'T risk your body... even your LIFE!!

Tinker bell, I'm willing to bet you do not have a tattoo, nor would you ever be gutsy enough to get one. As for your comment; there is not a place on the human body that you can get a tattoo and there not be a 1000 or more people out there with one in the same spot. So who gives a fu** if other people have tattoos on the small of there back, if that is where he/she would want it then that should be where he/she gets it. Your the one that will live with it not everyone else.

I think that just because everyone else has a tattoo in the exact same spot that it shouldn't stop you from getting one in the smae spot if that is where you want it. i am fixing to get a tattoo on the small of my back because that is where i really want it

I also think that people get their tattoos in the same spot because of the places it looks best is mostly on your arm, breast,top of your shoulder, or the middle of your back like i have one on each arm and i have one on the bottom middle of my back but everyone likes it cause only i have it so if you are gonna get on or how ever many just be original and make sure your gonna be happy with it remember it a life and death thing.

I have a tattoo on the small of my back like many others. I was told that this meant you are a slut. How can people judge you by where you have a tattoo? I love my tattoo and where i have it, i have absolutely no regrets, thats what its all about, having something that makes you happy about yourself and your body!

I too was thinking about a tattoo on the small of the back- I am quite surprised that so many people read so much into tattoo location? I am curious why one would associate the location of a tattoo with someones sexual promiscuity. Come on people, are you that judgemental, jealous, or insecure??? Get a life!

Getting a tattoo on the small of your back does not mean you are a hoe nor does it mean your a slut! if that is the case then people with tattoos on their privet parts are hoes and sluts!!! only the person who has the tattoo should say why they have the tattoo and what it means... For the epidural with a tattoo. I guess it is up to the doc to decide whether they will do it or not...

Well, I'm getting a tattoo on the lower part of my back! I'm not a slut/hoe.I want it there because thats were I want it.I'm getting mine June 10th.Can anybody please tell me how bad it hurts.Because Im really skinny and my back gets a lot of sun to it.So, can someone please tell me how bad it hurts and were it hurt the most when you were getting your tattoo on your lower back.. I am getting a tattoo next month, and I am not paying any attention to what or where anybody else has there tattoo. 'Cause I don't care. I am only worried bout what I want. Besides, it is a tattoo, why does anyone care what other people have and where they have it? Is it really that big a deal. I hope nobody worries about what i get or where i get it, if they do, they must have alot of time on there hands.

I think that getting a tattoo on your lower back is one of the smarter choices if you're going to get a tatoo... easy to cover up... personal.. you can choose to make it shown or not just with your wardrobe which is always a good thing...

you are all hoes! every girl i know who has a tattoo on the small of their back is a hoe! EVERY girl i know. ALL of the girls i know who DON'T have tattoos on the small of thier back AREN'T hoes!!! stick that in your hole... you are what you are and don't try and convince yourself or others otherwise.

i have had two children in 2 diff states and had my tattoo on the small of my back both times and they gave me my epidural no questions asked.

I am pregnant and was told by one Dr that I would not be able to get epidural due to my tattoo but when I met with my Dr and the staff at the hospital I am going to deliver at they said it would be no problem because there is NO way the ink can go into your spine with the needle the ink is contained to the first few layers of skin and isnt "floating" around being able to be transfered other places

I had heard the same thing about the ep shots. I'm 15 and getting a tattoo on my back I didnt want to get one then find out that I couldn't have the ep shots later on.... kinda funny how someone would think that getting a tat on their back is slutty.... i think thats kinda harsh, the only reason i can think of someone saything that is because maybe someone they knew might have been "slutty or a hoe" then got a tatoo there------ really retarded. Get your tatoo where you want regardless of what other pple think...

What I don't understand about the lower back tattoo is why you'd want a tattoo somewhere that you won't see it too much. You're obviously getting it there to enhance the way you look to others, am I right?

No, you can get a tattoo on the small of your back and still get an epidural at time of birth. Why would I get mine on the small of my back. How I can hide it * With a work shirt * With a One Piece Bathing Suit * With a Wedding Gown Why would I hide it... I did it for me. and for me to show my dedication to The Lord. This is for me and my future husband to enjoy. I WILL show friends but I don't want everyone to see it or think I am a slut for the spot of choice.

i don't care where someone has their tattoo and neither should you, you wouldn't want someone scrutinizing something that you like now would you? i didn't think so. Anyways....im thinking about getting a tattoo on my lower middle back but 1)i cant take pain too well 2) I'm scared of needles and 3) I'm just freaking scared it will HURT!! also i don't know what to get, i want something meaningful but i don't want something big.

I recently found out that i was pregnant, and someone told me that since i have a tat on the small of my back i would not be able to get epidural when i go into labor, so will you quit talking about tattoos and that people who get them are hoes and answer the f*cking question
