How can I install files that have the extension  
sit.  I am trying to download on a pc and install on a Mac Classic.

A .sit file is one which has been compressed to save space. You need to download the .sit file. Then if you have Stuffit expander or even just plain Stuffit the file will open (probably in a text format).
A simple free version of Stuffit can be downloaded from the internet. Don't remember the web site but you can find it  with any search engine, i.e., Google.

Sorry AnAlaskan that's a bad answer.

If the OS is earlier than 8.6 then you need a version of the stuffit expander ending with the .hqx extension, anything with a .sit extension will just worsen the headhacke... You can get one here : http://www.stuffit.com/cgi-bin/stuffit_downloader.cgi

i've downloaded Stuffit and tried to open my sit. file but it didn't work.

There is an alternitive, free program that's alot smaller than stuffit. You can find it at http://sac-ftp.externet.hu/pack11.html and it's called mindexp. Only for windows though.

I have a .sit file and need to open I am using Win XP, don't think I can do much with the files as it looks like a MAC application, anyway I can do anything to view the file in Windows?
