A "bichon-poo" is simply a crossbreed of a Bichon Frise and a Poodle. Though any mixed-breed dog can make a wonderful pet, you should beware of people who charge loads of cash for a mutt -- no matter what cute name they tack on to it.

We just bought a Bichon-Poo. He is really sweet and his name is Romeo- We got him from a breeder in Greenville, TX for $75.00. I asked to look at the mother and father and they looked in good health and had good temperments. He is very playfull and likes to jump up and "dance".

I have a 10 week old Bichon/poodle mix. She is very sweet and PLAYFUL! I have owned Bichon'sin the past and they are the BEST small breed for families and kids that I've run across. However, they are a little hard to house train. This is where the poodle mix comes in handy. So smart and trainable. I did not buy the puppy as my male was the father, however, the other puppies sold for 300.00. In my opinion, that's quite a bit for a mix-breed but the other people who bought the other puppies seems to be satisfied witht he price and LOVE their babies. (I know the new families). Maybe this will help.

We've had our 11 wk old Bichon/Poodle also known as a Bich-a-poo for 2 wks. Mix breed dogs are sometimes better health wise than a pure breed. Also, a lot less expensive! Our little girl is a sweet and playful pup!! We're extremely happy to have her. We started to train her in a litter box and she is doing GREAT!! I love my mixed breed (aka mutt)!! Although, I will admit, I paid TOO much for her.(800. shots & chip included) But, I feel that she'll bring us 15+ yrs of companionship and happiness and that will be worth it!!
My advise, whatever you pay for a pup... make sure you take it to your own VET ASAP. My girl had Giradia, (common parasite). And the kennel didn't tell me!! Not Cool!!

I have a female bichon frise that is 4 years old. I recently had a baby (he is 9 months old) and have moved into a new home and she has been regressing from getting less attention. We are looking for a good home that can give her the attention she deserves. You may email me at aricp@aol.com if you are interested in adopting her. (We are in the Kansas City area).

I have a 11month Bichon/poo. He is wonderful, probably the best dog i have ever had. He is not the most intelligent dog that i have ever had, but he is by far the best companion dog ive ever had. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants a nice, small, lovable, and trainable dog. He is only about 15 lbs and you will fall in love with them in minutes. Medically he is good, Bichons have history of allergins so you might need to take them to the vet more often then not. but it is worth it

Hi. I just bought a Bichon Poodle mix. He is a boy. I had some questions about house training him. I'm still in college so I was thinking about paper training him. Is this a good idea, is it hard to do? Is litter training better and cleaner? I want to be able to take my little guy wherever I go, even if they don't allow pets, I thought paper training it would be nice, because he wouldn't have to go outside and be seen. Please add any suggestions! Thank you

I just got my bichon-poo i think she is sooo wounderful... she loves to dance.. she is the cuttest thing ever, although i think i did pay a pretty penny for her. $550 but she is part of my family so i guess i can't put a price on her. Although i have tried to paper train her (which i have never done with a dog befor) i couldn't take her out for medical reasons ...and ohhh boy do i find little poops all over the place :( ... but i'mguessing once the weather is nicer it should be easier..

Hi, Michelle. I live in southern MN and got our bichon poo 2 years ago in Iowa. I wasn't completely impressed with the breeder (farm) but our Popcorn is the most wonderful little dog and she was healthy when I took her in to the vet for the puppy check. If you're still interested, I could give you the information.

I have a Bichon-poo. Her name is Kami and she's 9 weeks old. I was reading some of the prices and I'm from NC and I brought Kami for $200. I had to drive about 2 hours to get her, but after seeing all those prices, it was well worth every dollar. She's the cutiest thing, but I am having trouble house training her and she doesn't like a lease at all. Any ideals on house training and getting her use to a lease? Thank you!

To Nikki,AL or anyone interested about their groomings. When you take the puppy to be groomed be very specific on how much hair you want left on the body, face, ears, tail, etc.Groomers are willing to work with you. There are no set patterns or cuts for a bichon/poodle like there are already in breed styles. It is up to you what you like.I groom quite a few and some owners like the short body with a more full round face, and others like it left a bit longer on the body.I have a few who have them short all over(head too) and some with an even shorter clean poodle face.Oh,and if you like the 1-3# or longer styles you will have to really keep up on that brushing in between grooms. If it matts up enough the little one more than likely will have to be taken short to start over.Dematting hurts.I think they look really cute long too though.Just remember that a groomer only has what the owner requests of him/her,the coat type, and condition of coat to work with.If anyone needs tips or info please feel free to ask. :)

To Carol H. Driver in Iowa....
I know you're looking for a Bicha-poo but you might consider a bichon-cocker. I got mine in Forest City Iowa and he is truely a wonderful dog. He was fully house trained two months after we got him and is a very smart pup. We take him to the local dog park every day and he is one of the favorites (I know most people would say that but in this case it really is true). Here is a link to the website I"ve created for him....the breeder information is on the front page. I hope this helps!

If you people looking for "a bichon-poo" dog are willing to spend a lot of money, I would recommend just going ahead and buying a Bichon Frise. The Bichon Frise is an actual breed recognized by the AKC and all other kennel clubs. I've seen them range from 600 dollars up into the high thousands (that much for show dogs). My bichon was born on Jan. 23, 2004 and he already knows how to sit, shake with both paws, lay down, roll over and he does his business outside!! They are wonderful pets (especially for families even with small children) and I wouldn't trade him for the world.

I have a seven year old bichon/poodle mix. She is an absolute delight. She has never been sick, destructive or aggressive. She is good with, other dogs, kids and adults. I bought her from a poodle mix breeder in Missouri and had her shipped to NY.
If you have an opportunity to buy a bichon/poodle mix, it will certainly be worth the cost.
My dog is as smart as a poodle with the easy going personality of the bichon.

I've noticed several Texas residents looking for Bichon frise pups. I have a beautiful female named Sugar who is at the breeder's right now. This will be her 3rd litter and should be due in Sept. Bichons are the best pets..nonshedding,bright,devoted and they produce NO body dander! That means they are considered hypoallergenic and never have a doggy smell. My pups have beautiful thick luscious fur. If you are interested, call me at 903-726-3222. Thanks and good luck with your Bichons!

Bichon Poos are great pets. Great with kids, hypo allergenic and very smart. Crate training is the only way to go for house breaking. It works in as little as 2 weeks. It's funny but I have seen them referred to as "Designer Dogs" on the web when we were looking for one. They are in the same group as yorki poo, schnoodles, labradoodles, cockapoos and pin poos. By the way keep their hair short, except head and tail because they are a lot of maintence otherwise.

We got a Bichon poo several days ago. She is 16 weeks. Can you give me any crate training tips? She goes outside when we take her there, but seems just as happy to go in the house. Also, we have been told that crating her during the day when we are at work and school will be fine. I hope she is ready for that in about 1 month. Thanks. Werbmom@yahoo.com

Here's our story. We got a male Bichon-Poo in Oct. of '03 at 11 weeks. He was soooo cute! It took a few months to potty train him b/c one of our neighbors would pick him up EVERY TIME he would try to go to the bathroom. She couldn't resist! Once we got past that issue, house training was fairly quick.
Fast forward a few months and he hits "puberty". Ohhhh boy. I have 4 very young kids and they could not ever sit down on the floor w/o him "climbing" on them. He also started to get more aggressive and started getting onto the kitchen table, tearing up trash, ripping up the carpet and chewing on the kid's toys. It wasn't an overnight thing but was more gradual. I'd find him "testing the limits" so to speak more and more frequently. We finally got him neutered at about 10 months. Maybe that was too late, I don't know but at least he stopped his "boy stuff on the kids". However, he still continued "testing his limits" and started actually biting the kids. My 2 yr old continued to pull the poor dog's tail, even after being bitten and a boatload of unending reprimands (to the 2 yr old). Unfortunately, we had to say good-bye to the little guy and he is with a family with older children now.
ANyway, I think he was a really fun dog although, a little annoying b/c of his hyperactivity and would probably do best in smaller families.

I am a vet tech at one of the emergency clinics here in the dallas area. We had a nice couple bring in a bich-poo mix last weekend. They had just bought him from a breeder in the Oklahoma area. He had bad diarrhea and was vomiting. He ended up having coccidia a parasite and the parvo-virus. When they got the estimate they opted to euthanize. But they said they would call the breeder first thing when they got home to see if they would take him back. Well in the few hours he was there I decided I would take him under my wing. They agreed for me to take him. He was sick for 3-4 days, had 3 plasma transfusions, and was hooked up to an IV. But I am glad to say he has been home for 2 days and back to his puppy self. He is playful and eating a lot! Good luck to any one looking for this kind of mix. But do be careful when choosing a breeder.

Reading all this has been very interesting! I'm seriously considering either a bischon or bischon-poo. I'm curious if the mix or hybrid breed tends to have kinkier hair. I'm am a little worried as it seems common that they are hard to house train. I live in the Dallas area - bischons are easy to find but the bischon-poos are not. Any advise???

I have a 6 year old male Bischon-Poo. I got him at 3 months for 200.00. He is the best little companion anyone would want. I crate trained him in 2 days. He is so cute and lovable. He loves people and gets along great with all animals. He is a very smart little dog. He loves to be held and talked to. I got him from a pet center in Minnesota, he was bred by a Paul Snyder in Emerado, North Dakota. You will never be sorry with this breed. He will be your best friend always.

I have a male Bischon-Poo who is 5 years old. I got him from a pet center in Minnesota when he was 3 months old. It was the best 200.00 I ever spent. He is a very intelligent little dog with such cute tricky ways. He always got me laughing. He won't come in the house until his feet are wiped. He has a lot of stuffed animals and you can tell him to get bear, white dog or frog etc. and he will run and get the one you told him to get. When I was on chemo and had to spend a lot of time in bed, you couldn't ask for a more dedicated companion. He would not leave my side. When I was sick, he was sick.
He loves all of my attention and loves it when I hold him and talk to him. When I have errands to run and he has to stay home, he has my house slipper laying by the door with his head on top of it waiting for me to return. He loves all people, adores kids, and gets along great with all animals. I have had poodles in the past, which I adored all of them, but my Polar sure is something extra special. I am sure you will be super happy. This dog should be a member of the AKC. They are the greatest little companions you could ask for. Also, I crate trained him in 2 days. They learn what you want them to do very easy. They sure are a special Breed.

Hey Everybody. This has been a pretty informative FAQ. I just bought a "bichapoo" and maybe I can share some of my experiences. Rocky is four months old, I brought him home about a month ago. He is THE BEST. So wonderful, playful, in short, no complaints... no need to repeat everyone. He responds SO well to training. In the short month I've had him, he already knows SIT, UP (stand), COME, IN (to his cage) and PAW. From what I've researched, that is definitely the Poodle side coming out. He is one smart son of a gun.
Exterior wise, I cannot tell the difference between him and a Bichon (what I was looking for originally). So far, his coat and stature is more Bichon than anything else. I haven't seen anything substantial online in terms of pictures, and I was hoping to post pics here on this site, but I don't seem to be able to. It would be great if we did...

I also have a bichon poo. Her name is Anna. She is the cutest, smartest dog I have ever owned. She has so much personality. I have found that bichon poo's are cuter than bichon's. I have also found, that if their hair is long and fluffy they look like a bichon. Once they are groomed they resemble a poodle. I have learned that the puppy cut is the only way to go with this breed. I am so happy with Anna that I would like to breed her. I got her for Mothers Day three years ago at a pet store in a New Hampshire mall for $550.00. It was worth it!
