I am replacing a light fixture that comes on at dusk and goes off at dawn. It is in the front yard of a gated community that all have the same lights on top of a hollow metal pole. The new light fixture has a ground and 2 stranded regular lamp cord. Inside the pole which has the photo cell there seems to be many wires and connectors. I removed the old fixture by taking the white wire from the fixture off the wirenutted bundle with 2 other white wires in it and undoing the black wire from the fixture from a red wire with the wire nut. The only other wire from the fixture was a ground wire. I replaced all wires by just splitting the lamp-cord in half and connecting one to the white wires and one to the red wire and then connecting the ground wire. When I turned the circuit back on the light came on and won't go off. I switched the only 2 wires and have the same result. Any ideas?
