spayed females in good health and eating healthy kibble shed less then unspayed females.  Hormone changes influence shedding.

I have a smooth Black & Tan and he always shed a little, till this year. He has lose almost all he's hair on his underneath. The vet and I believe it is do to allergy's. Something in the dew on the grass. He also in the past had alopecia of the ear flaps which some Dachshunds get. It's inherited, It,s to much seberm (oil) in his follicles and it causes the hair to fall out. I was having to wash his ears with T-Gel or baby shampoo often but now I bath him more all over due to allergy's. Give them a good diet w/protein and expect some shedding, we all do.

Hair color has a lot to do with it.  I have a Red female that hardly sheds at all, no matter the situation.  I have a piebald male that is not to bad unless he is stressed, then there is white hair everywhere.
