i have just started Java i have been given this question which i can't solve please can you help me?

Problem 1
Design and write a program that will prompt for and read in from the keyboard a simple sentence, short enough to be held on a single line of input, in the form of a sequence of letters separated by single spaces and terminated by a full stop.  The output from the program will display each of the words on a single line together with the number of letters in the word.
Sample Input:   Mary had a little lamb.
Sample Output:           Mary      4
         had      3
         a      1
         little      6
         lamb      4
