How do conservatism feel about war?

The idea of being conservative is to be a normal human being with the understandings and reactions of normal human beings. So war is horrible and destructive, and it's to be avoided whenever possible. Sometime it's necessary though, and when it is it shouldn't be shirked. Also, anything that shows us what human beings are and what they are capable of confers a benefit on us. Naturally, it's much easier to feel that way about past wars than present or future wars.
