Look in the animal shelters 25% are purebreds and many are puppies. It will save a life and I must say shelter dogs seem to be more attached to their owners because they have seen what it is like without them, cold and lonely. That has been my experience and I have had both dogs from breeders and dogs from shelters. Before you pay $500 for a dog, check out the shelter or rescues, the cost of one from there can be from $25-to around $100. Some even have papers with them. It is worth it, plus it makes ya feel better when you save a life. 75% are put down because of too much breeding.

The shelters and rescue groups all treat people trying to adopt like criminals and lowlifes. I love animals and wouldn't hurt one, I was shocked with the cool reception typically received when inquiring about animals.

Not everyone is a research facility, some of us would just like to have an animal companion...

If you work at a shelter, consider THAT next time someone calls in...

We were turned away from the humane society when we tried to adopt a 6 month old husky puppy in spite of the fact that we were both raised with collie/shepherd mix dogs over 85 lbs, despite the fact that i am a stay at home mom who wanted a family companion, despite the fact that we have 2 fenced acres for a dog to run and play all he likes. Their reason? Our children were all under 9 years old. So they would not adopt anything to us except lap dogs which we have no interest in at all. We went to a breeder an hour north of Detroit and were disgusted with the poor condition of the dogs and kennels and finally found our husky in a newspaper ad. A family bred their own beloved pet and sold us one of the puppies on a full registration. Look for an ad in the paper. You can find some nice dogs that way.

I found mishka as an owner surrender through a husky adoption site near Detroit.  A lot of people will get them and not realize how much they need to run and exercise.  Also, they will escape like crazy so alot will get away.  I would recommend a shelter dog as well.  don't pay the high price for a breeder.  I got Mishka for free with papers and her crate and a months worth of food.  She's the best dog I could ever ask for!  She doesn't have a lot of the normal husky characteristics and the ones she does are very minimal.
