Hey Marina!Your name sounds Bulgarian.Where are you from? You can change your status from J1 to F1 not so difficult.Just go to a university or college, have an appointment with an international adviser and he(she) will tell you the process. Some colleges or universities send you the papers to INS.Other want you to do it,but it's not that complicated. You need to fill in a few papers,to show some document(bank statements, high school diploma and etc)....Good luck.
Oh,by the way,the Au pair program may be a 2 two years program from now on.But it's not sure still. That's a new statement and is still discussed...

I have being an au pair in the U.S. since January/2005, and I am going to extend this program for one more year. My visa expires on January 10th, 2006.
Could I get a new visa stamp in my passport as the one that I got when I had to pass through the U.S immigration, even if my visa is expired?
The reason of my question is that I do not want to go back to my country to get a new visa.
