Dogs behavior changes when they are depressed
My dog is older but I still see the "mopping"
the lack of general interest.  The bowel
habits change and if nothing else....my dog
tells me.  Dogs do converse with you, I can
always tell when my dog is smiling.  The
most important thing is that you remain
aware that you played a large part in your
dog's behavior, take a look at that.

we got a new puppy and we played with him most of the time.  I am looking at my dog right now and she is mopping around and when my other dog gos by she grabs her bone and growls.  She also looks downward all the time.  She also guards me.  Is my dog depressed?

We recently got my grandfather a new puppy. A very hyper flat haired golden retriever. Before we got this puppy for my grandfather he used to play with my dog for countless hours when he stopped by to visit, and when he baby-sat my dog he would take her out on his boat and everything. The first time he stopped by with his new dog my dog had gotten a little jealous and everyone could tell. My grandfather recently visited my home with his new dog. My dog doesn't like the new puppy because she's still hyper, and ever since my grandfather has left she has been mopping around the house the way she does when we're packing up for a vacation. And lately she's been wandering upstairs and sleeping in my room but we have never let her upstairs before. Is my dog depressed?

Dogs can become depressed from lack of activity, not enough variety in life, and because of their genetics. Try doing something new and exciting with your dog.

This is a question.  I picked up this dog beside the road and she was very happy and playful.  I have had her about 2 weeks and 2 days after Thanksgiving I couldn't find her anywhere.  The following Monday I was leaving to go to class and I saw her, she just stood and looked at me like she was depressed.  After class I come home to find her standing still looking at me I brought her in the house and she wouldn't eat or drink nothing and her stomach was sunk in something awful and was very hard.  She wouldn't move she just layed there I pressed on her everywhere and she showed no signs of pain just kinda grunted like I was annoying her.  Last night she was at my neighbors house and he said she was laying on a chair freezing to death and felt kinda stiff and looked very ill.  I think she is going to die, but I don't know what is wrong with her and I don't have the money to take her to the vet.  Does anyone have and advice as to what I should do?  Does it sound like she will die if so would it be best to have her put to sleep?  Just a few days prior she was just fine with a big fat belly and lots of energy.  What should I do?  I hate to see her suffer if she is going to die anyway.

Im not sure.. my father recently left for war and ever since hes been gone my dog has been moping around the hosue and sleeping in my parents closet next to my fathers shoes and hes just been acting really weird. he doesnt seem happy anymore. I think he thinks my dad left the family, or that something happened to my dad. but we dont know what to do about it because the dog just wont cheer up, and its sad.

Your dog is probably depressed but also and alpha male/female. The alpha male or female dog is protective of certain things thinking that their "its possesions" Try excercising your dog more and giving your dog more toys or treats or hugs to help w/ your dogs depression. But also try to get your other dog active with your dog so your dog doesnt resent the other dog so much.

most the time when my dog is depressed it means my mom isn't there. he is very attached to her. we cheer him up by constantly rubbing his chest and not leaving him for more than a couple of minutes. it doesn't always work

My dog let me know when we brought home a second dog. He had full reign of the house and at the time we didn't know we had to gradually introduce a new dog into his environment and territory. While we avoided any dog fights, the googs let me know that he was not a happy camper. His depression and disdain with me was so bad I thought I had a second wife ahaha
