Food Habits
Scientists thoughts on the diet of the dodo are based mainly on speculation. Some sailors' accounts talk of watching dodos wade into water-pools to catch fish. They have been described as "strong and greedy" hunters. What really fascinated the visitors to Mauritius, however, was the fact that dodos seemed to eat stones and iron frequently and with no trouble. It is now surmised that the rocks eased digestion. (Strickland and Melville, 1848; Fuller, 1987)

i think dodo birds ate fish in small ponds that they could find around the island that they use to live on. Thats just my opinion whats yours.

In 1973, scientists discovered that a species of tree on Mauritius, the dodo tree Sideroxylon grandiflorum = Calvaria major, was dying out. There were only 13 specimens reported left, and all of them were about 300 years old, dating from the time when the last Dodo was killed. It was discovered that the Dodos ate the seeds of the tree, and only by passing through the digestive tract of the Dodo did the seeds become active and start to grow. After a while, it was discovered that the same effect could be accomplished by letting turkeys eat the seeds. The tree species has been saved. However, more recent research suggests that young specimens were simply overlooked and that it probably was the extinct Broad-billed Parrot Lophopsittacus mauritianus rather than Dodos which were chiefly responsible for spreading the seeds. Life span is unknown. There has been no scientific experiment on a real life DODO(Height,Weight,LIFESPAN,Etc.

Im writing this to answer your question on the life span of the  Dodo bird.

heres the info:



Since the average life span of this tree was about 300 years, the last members of the species were extremely old. They would soon die, and the species would be extinct. Was it just a coincidence that the tree had stopped reproducing 300 years ago and that the dodo had become extinct 300 years ago? No. It turns out that the dodo ate the fruit of this tree, and it was only by passing through the dodo's digestive system that the seeds became active and could grow. Now, more than 300 years after one species became extinct, another was to follow as a direct consequence.

the dodos lived on an Indian ocean island called Mauritius in the Mauritian archipelago

the dodo belongs in the columbiforms A.K.A dove and pigeon tree and relatives include extinct:reunion solitaire and Rodriguzes solitaire

we owe the extinction of the dodo bird to Portuguese sailors [as always] rabbits,dogs,cats,goats,rats,mongooses,hogs,  pigs,monkeys

the reunion solitaire is a cryptic

I really think that dodo's are the bomb digity!!! They are the best freaken birds eva!! I think if you get a bird you should name it dodo!! That would be FUNNY!! Oh and I would like to say that Mrs. Smith is the best science teacher ever and that she teaches a lot to us about dodo's!!
