A rectifier is NOT the one which is able to give us a pure form of a.c current from d.c current, but is the one which gives us DC current from AC current. The output current however may not be a constant current, it contains ripples. Needs a filter to smoothen it out.

A rectifier converts an A.C Voltage to pulsating D.C. You need a filter to get the constant D.C.
