i am trying to connect 2 home computers, so as to enable file sharing.
one system is connected to internet through dialup modem. i do not need the other system to connect to internet.
i was told i could connect via a "crossover" cable, not using hub or router. (rj 45)
have tried 2 different cables, but am missing something in the setup procedure. where can i find the specific steps to do this?
thanks, david

Your crossover cable should cross wires 1 and 2, and 3 and 6. ie, on one end, swap 1 & 2, and swap 3 & 6. Leave them as is on the other end. - once you have a correctly configured cable, the two pcs should see each other - assuming you have drivers etc installed!
