Manga is a comic book, usualy japanese although more and more english ones are being made.

Anime is a cartoon basicly. If it moves, its anime, if its on paper, its manga. An annoying company called 'manga' makes anime, just to confuse you :-P

Manga literally means comic book in english, in Japan the term "manga" is used for all comic books, however foriegn fans use the term "manga" for a Japanese comic book only.

Anime literally means animated show in english or a cartoon as American's say. In Japan "anime" like manga is used for all animated shows... but is used as a name for  a Japanese animated show with foriegn fans.

Just felt like being specific there.. hope it helps a little more.

Manga is a Japanese comic book.  Although where I'm from (Kanagawa, Japan) we call all comic books manga.

Anime is an animated series/cartoon derived from a manga.  If the cartoon is not produced after a manga, it is technically not considered anime, it's just an animated series.

manga is somthing that is not in motion or in other words,it isn`t animated.           And anime is Japanese ANIMATION so also put into simplest form it is a comic type series like ( EX:Inuyasha ) exept for it is shown on t.v with motion added to the comic.

Dammit! .. things get out of hand:

Manga: the equivalent of a japanese comic book, on paper, completely still, no animation or sound added.

Anime: the equivelent of a japanese TV cartoon, thats animation, sound the whole bang u can watch on your TV. There are some cultural differences to the way japanese treat their 'anime' to the way the US treat their 'cartoons' but ultimately anime only ever means animated cartoon.

COMMON FALSE IDEA: Manga is a more hardcore, us version of Anime. This idea came from the fact that "Manga Entertainment" was dubbing anime to english and was calling its products "Manga". The early so-called more "hardcore" anime are still anime and they still originated in japan like the rest of em.

The point, all this confusion arises because a US anime dubbing company called themselves "Manga Entertainment" whilst there dubs arent quite too bad, the name of their company is completely wrong. Their products are NOT "Manga" they're "Anime"

Thank you Tenka, some ppl just ask too much without reading what has been said.

Ryunosuke was completelly accurate on the fact that anime derives from manga on the sense that if the cartoon is not produced after a manga, it is technically not considered anime.

Read ppl plz read... the original question had been answered correctly by aceizace why circle it around???

Just my two cents!

Manga is so awesome!!!!!!!!!! But it is not the same as anime! Really, Anime is just an animated version of manga. But they should just call anime manga because everyone is getting really confused about it.

There's a new trend I've noticed-- graphic novels w/art like animated shows and start frontways vs. backways. They call these novels 'anime' and I believe they all have anime TV shows. Perhaps these should be technically called manga, but they /are/ listed in bookstores as anime, or graphic novels, but not manga. I'm guessing this is also causing confusion.

Anime: Japanese animation with a style that puts beauty into the eyes.

Manga: Japanese comic books drawn in the same style.

I heard that there is an anime company called Manga. Their name is wrong. They make anime, not manga. See the definitions above. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS for switching the two. Not even a wrong name.

in my opinion: difference between US & JP anime is obvious..  what is in JP anime is knowledge, style and everything what is <or should be> realy important in human life. and US cartoons.. I'm really sorry to say that but I must: US cartoons (...) are stupid, no style, empty.. just moving pictures without personality.
Japanese anime teach and show things U normally miss everyday. I'm from EU and that is my point of view.

Manga is in a comic, with more detailed lines in the face and body. there is shadowing, and most comics are printed in japanese. Anime is televised, although looking like manga, they do have differences. Anime is drawn equally in one even line for the face and body less detailed. anime is usually cartoons like salior moon, and inuyasha crap. Whatever
hope my info helps

There are many things that can separate a manga from a regular comic. One thing is that when it comes to manga you can't always tell if the characters are girls or guys.^^ Another is that sometimes your bad guys seem to be good guys and the vise versa.I've also read and noticed that they consentate on the expression of there characters as well as body movements not just action. There are a few more things i think  but I forgot them *shrugs* I hoped it help. I am also doing a speech on manga so wish me luck ^^

MANGA: a still cartoon like one you read in the comics.

ANIME: A cartoon series that you would watch on the T.V.

Both are Japenese style cartooning.
